My football/soccer team is Southampton.
I went to me first match and sat on my Dad's lap at the age of 6 (3-2 home win vs Stoke) and have since then:
Seen my team get promoted and relegated; win the FA Cup; nearly go out of existence; move stadium; stay in the league by dint of last game heroics (and others failings).
It's often been said that we can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
I was on their books for a few years (not good enough in the end) and my brother, one of my sons and one of my nephews have all dabbled on the playing staff without making the first team.
For all the ups and downs, triumphs and disasters, they are my team.
Yesterday, we beat Newcastle at home (2-0) and we are
TOP OF THE PREMIERSHIP FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER
Probably will not be by the end of the day, but for now, we're looking down on the "big" clubs..
At risk of straying into the political, the club produced a picture on Twitter. It's the Prem table, us at the top, and headed "Stop the Count".

Graham, as a Birmingham City supporter I know where you are coming from.
So all I can say is that I'm pleased for you, enjoy it while it lasts.

Congratulations Graham. I love the Stop the Count tweet! Very topical.
And now my team Spurs are top for the first time in ages. May only last a couple of hours, though! But I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts.

Re: We are top of the league - a lifetime event
I have no illusions about staying where we are but equally I'm cheered by being:
1. Only 24 points (8 wins) from safety, and
3. Four wins ahead of the team presently in the last relegation place
I'm also quite relaxed about stories in the media that our manager will be on his way to a "big" club soon. No chance.
We do have a habit of giving managers a good start in the Prem and their leaving us to "better" things. Not this time though.
