Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Don't know whether a first ever attempt counts as a PB. Did a HM for the Solstice challenge and Nonathlon.
Didn't know what to expect as never been past the hour before. Had to get off and walk around sometime between 15k and 16k due to an on-going issue (glute/hammy).
Managed 1:29:55.1 which I'm pretty pleased with.
That's also put me past my pre-season target for Nonathlon of 7500.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Great rowing Jon, passed another of my PBs looks painful doing it the hard way positively splitting, I certainly couldn't have produced an acceleration like you showed at the end, especially maintaining the work per stroke when upping the rating. I couldn't keep my acceleration up for 1100M! Keep up the good work!
Crushy, glute pain is normal on longer rows, well done to duck under 90min.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Well done Crushy. The glute/hamstring pain is to be expected. Really good stretches of both before the row will help a lot, but won’t get away from the pain completely. Sub-90 minutes is a great thing to break through, especially if you went for a walk!Crushy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 2:31 pm Don't know whether a first ever attempt counts as a PB. Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Not to be outdone by all you gentlemen crushing PB's I have managed 2 more. A 4 min distance up from 1000 to 1020m, amazing how so much extra effort adds up to so few extra meters over just 4 mins.
My Sunday morning long session took exactly 1 min of my HM time set with the last crazybear HM last year. 1:38.48.1 June 21 2020 and 1.39.48.1 on Dec 18 2019. What are the chances of being exactly 1min apart. I usually amble along on these ut2 sessions for a HM in about 1h 45 so an unlooked for joy this morning. HR stayed under 80% so happy with that.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Great performance Jon! I imagine that rowing with a friend must help with motivation. I have only ever rowed alone, but always find that I am more motivated when I go on a group bike ride than on my own.JonT wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2020 10:50 am I had an early morning crack at the HM today to bag the Summer Solstice challenge at the same time. A friend offered to row with me, so we had the slightly odd, but ultimately enjoyable experience of rowing together over video. I would recommend this if you get a chance. He is a very strong rower and a good adviser on technique. Needless to say he finished 1,800m / 10mins ahead of me!
My previous PB was 1:28:56.5 from 2015 when I was training for a 100k otw row. I have been doing a lot of long distance, low rating work lately and so was quite hopeful that a PB could be on the cards.
I ended up with 1:27:35.4. A 1:21 improvement which is more than I had expected.
The rating was nice and low and pretty steady. I am quite comfortable rowing at an HR around 170 so I backed off the pace a little after 14,000 to try to keep things under control. The final blast over 3k nearly killed me.
This has also moved me up the Nonathlon nicely with dark green dominating the scores at the moment. The 60 minutes is interpolated from the HM.
My legs are not working well at all right now

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
It was quite an odd experience. We hardly spoke at all because we were so focussed. Jim (my friend) is a very strong rower, so I was never going to be anywhere close to him. He finished in 1:20:xx! But somehow it helped to keep me going and was a distraction. We also rowed at around the same rating so at some points I just focussed on matching him stroke for stroke.Dogma Dave wrote: ↑Sun Jun 21, 2020 6:33 pm Great performance Jon! There was a time when a group used to organise RowPro events together. That is extremely motivating...for me verging on life threateningly so!

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Chalk up another one. The rather soft 30 min from last season was ushered out of the way with a 400+m improvement during a planned rate and HR capped session. Capped at 24 s/m and 80% max HR the 30 min is now at 6855m (2.11.2 pace av). Still some more distance to be had in this 30min but that is for another day

Well done Lesley. Perhaps 7k is achievable soon? Given the rate that you are improving, I think it may be.

Jon, Well done on your PBs, very impressive . Last year when I did a lot of low rate training I saw PBs at shorter and longer distances but not in the middle. Hopefully your experience will be different but it'll be interesting to see.

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
I think I can claim this as a PB.
My record metres for a season thus far was just over 598k in 2011/2012.
After this afternoon’s effort, my 2020/2021 total is now over 600k, with less than 20% of the season gone so far.
Quite pleased with that...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
Thanks Jon.
Currently on course for 3 million as we speak, but the figures are skewed due to Covid. It’s only so high now as, like many people, I have only left the house a handful of times since lockdown.
Rowing, and in particular Free Spirits, is perhaps helping me more than anything else to stay motivated and indeed sane through this mess. So thanks to you all for that...

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
FYI - I'm in the Australian womens 50-59 HWt group. Australian records are now 10 year groups except for the 2k which is still 5 year. Conceptau only just strated having official records for events other than 100, 500, 1000, 2000, but they did go through old data and anything verified was counted.
My programming asked for a 6k TT, I figured I could go faster than the one I did not that long ago. Result, awaiting verification from concept2.
6000m
Prev Aus Record in 2008 = 25.09.3 (2.05.7)
My Prev Best 23 May 2020 = 25.49.9 (2.09.01)
And - 24 July 2020 = 24.56.4 (2.04.7)
Then having done that on Friday morning I figured my 5k time was soft, so had a crack at that on Monday am. I had to fit my weekly HM in on Saturday morning . This nearly ended up with my stomach emptying onto the floor so I think not much left after that 5k. My new goal will be to get it under the 20min, but I think that is a way of yet. I spent the whole day wondering when the hurty would stop
5000m
Prev Aus record 2019 =20.28.4
Me Monday 27/July 2020 =20.24.0 (2.02.4)
My Prev Best 7 May 2020 =21.03.5 (2.06.3)
And for fun in between these two rows I have a skierg which I use for a change in my fitness programming and managed an Australian 2k record on that as well. The records are only a couple of years in the keeping and not too many people have them at home so it was an easy target.
But of course I may be jumping the gun on all of these as I wait for verification from concept and the US are behind the times, literally for us, about 24 h behind
I can post the screen shots if you like but for now back to the 2k training

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
At my age I don't have any real hopes of setting any PBs on timed pieces, but I've been concentrating on putting in as much distance as I can. I'm not very fast but, with the right music, I can row for quite a while.
Last week I had a PB, at least in the nine years I've been saving workouts online, of 66,509 meters. Looking for a new monthly PB by breaking 230,952, which I did on September of 2011 and before now was my only 200k month. Right now I'm at 207,412 with several days to go, so I'm pretty confident of doing it.
My goal for the season is 2 million (previous best was about 1.2 million).

Re: Anyone had any PBs recently?
A PB weekend. 3 achieved
The state of New South Wales are holding their indoor rowing series and the otw rowing club that i erg at on a Wednesday night was allowed to be a zoom hub. Seven of us to push each other along. My first irl rowing competition.
1000m PB now 3.43.2 was approx 3.49.x
500m PB now 1.44.1 was approx 1.49.x
Having a need to complete my standard programming since I took a rest day before the race day on Sunday I completed a 30min TT. See earlier post re already besting this once this year, this is now over the 7000 at 7201. There is more in this as my legs are tired from yesterdays racing. Pretty happy with that result though.
I don't think the next race day in September will provide such huge PB's but I'll be trying.

Wow. A great set of results Lesley. There’s nothing like some healthy competition to push those PBs! And the 7k 30min row is a nice landmark too.
