Doesn't seem to be any takers - a slightly cryptic clue then : - Think wildly charismatic British ex-PM.

Re: Name that tune
Its a Wigan band formed in 1990 - the lead singer(who now has a successful solo career) performed an acoustic set at the IOW festival last year when he had to go on early because Jess Glynne was too drunk to perform!!

Re: Name that tune
I have a hunch the band might be The Verve with Richard Ashcroft as the front man. The only song I can think of by them was Bitter Sweet Symphony?

Thank you Plummy - a lightbulb has gone on in my still marshmallow/mashed potato brain. Right group, wrong song.
Could it be The drugs don't work?

Re: Name that tune
Peter, well done on coming up with the correct answer and quickly too.
The song title was incidental and chosen at random from my iPod rowing playlist.
I was watching a detective series recently on BBC iPlayer, called Cormoran Strike and the song formed part of the soundtrack played during an episode. It’s been years since I last heard the song and I have now added it to my iPod playlist.
Time for you to put on your thinking cap.
I hope that you will continue to stay safe and well.

I love those lyrics! But I don't recall ever hearing them and I haven't a clue who wrote them or who performed them or what the name of the song is, though.

Re: Name that tune
Hi Paul. I did not check before I posted, but luckily the song was popular all around the world, peaking on the Irish charts at number 3, which was a bit higher than in the US or GB.
Not bad for a singer from New Jersey singing about baseball!
"I had a friend was a big baseball player back in high school
He could throw that speedball by you, make you look like a fool boy"

Hi Peter
Probably Bruce Springsteen in that case. Can't place the lyrics.
