Re: Name that Film
Hi guys. I am not sure where you are going, but I do not remember W. C. Fields in King Kong.
Also, I am ashamed to finally note that I left out a word in my original post. The quote should read ""It ain't a fit night out for man nor beast."
I resurrected this thread mostly to share this film, since I like it, we often quote it at home ( ), and, as hinted at, other threads made me think of it. I have no problem if my two participants, Paul and Ron, just want to end the mystery and leave the thread dormant until someone is moved to post another film.
I do not know how to insert a video clip without using the youtube page that gives the film title. Here are excerpts, with the quoted line, which is the continuing gag in the movie. The entire film is only 18 minutes long, if you want to search and view it.
SPOILER ALERT The following link contains the name of the film. Do not open if you want to continue to guess the name of the film.

Peter, I love your comment, it makes me giggle every time that I read it. Perhaps he was the chap in the gorilla suit ...

When I saw Ron's guess, I assumed that Peter's reference to W.C. Fields was a red herring. I stand corrected!Jill wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2020 10:17 amPeter, I love your comment, it makes me giggle every time that I read it. Perhaps he was the chap in the gorilla suit ...

I had a look at the clip and you sure managed to pull an obscure one out of the bag there, Peter! Never heard of it.
I think it might be safe for you to assume at this stage that nobody is going to guess the title of the film unless they look at the clip you posted or google W.C. Fields' filmography.

Re: Name that Film
I'm going to act on Peter's suggestion and put forward a quote from another film. The name of the W.C. Fields short was The Fatal Glass of Beer.
This should probably have been posted yesterday, but here goes:
If it were true that children emulate their teachers, we'd have a lot more nuns running around.

Re: Name that Film
I think that this film is going to be difficult for people to recognise, so I've going to provide some clues and some more dialogue. The actor who played the lead role won the Best Actor Oscar for his role in this film.
A: Forty years old and I haven't done a thing that I'm proud of.
B: You keep eating this cake, you're gonna be fat by the time you're fifty.
Another clue tomorrow if nobody gets it by then.

Re: Name that Film
As promised, another clue (and another quote) today.
The film was a biopic and included the following dialogue:
This is ... speaking on Friday, November the 18th. This is only to be played in the event of my death by assassination.

Re: Name that Film
Another good guess, but not correct, unfortunately. OK, final clue coming up. If it's not guessed by tomorrow, I'll post the name of the film and the baton will pass back to Mr S (sorry Peter).
As I said it's a biopic and as you might guess from the previous clues, it's about someone who was assassinated. He was a local politician who ran on what was, at that time, a somewhat controversial platform. It would have been his birthday last week and that date is commemorated in the city where he worked.
The actor who portrayed him has won two best actor oscars, including the one he won for this film. Final piece of dialogue from the film is the following:
My girlfriend says you guys don't like women, I'm just asking: Is there a place for us in all this, or are you guys all scared of girls?

Purely from the germs reference I'd guess War of the Worlds but I thought that was later than the 90's

From the new clue - maybe Terry Gilliam is the director? The Fisher King (not Sci-Fi) - or Twelve Monkeys?
