Back to basics

Post by Paul Victory »

Hi Folks

After a period in the wilderness, I've decided to rejoin Free Spirits.

I’ve been doing practically no erging over the past several months. This was due initially to ongoing back problems, but I now feel that my failure to get back on track is at least partly due to lack of motivation. I’m trying to find a way to get back into regular erging and I think my best chance of getting the push I need to do this is by rejoining my old teammates. I'm hoping that you will give me a good kicking if I don't get my act together.

I've been doing a lot of walking and have also been doing Pilates classes in order to try to lessen the various aches and pains that constantly assail me. I've currently got some sort of pull in my inner thigh that will prevent me getting back on the erg as soon as I would like. But I'm hoping to get back into the habit of rowing a few times a week - maybe just 2 or 3 days a week initially.

So watch this space and please feel free to pile in with words of advice/encouragement/admonishment or anything else that takes your fancy.

Hey Paul, good luck with it.

Welcome back, Paul. Though I'm not privy to the information surrounding your departure, it saddened me a bit when it happened. Now my yin and yang have reached balance on this issue... :D

Welcome back!
Maybe you and Paul G can start a self-help group where you help each other to take it easy. Weekly inspections of meters and keeping an eye on each other to not overdo it.
When thinking about it that group might have many more potential members

Welcome back Paul.
Thanks for the suggestion Tako - I guess you are going to be one of the first applicants for membership of this new club :D :D .

Hi Ron

Thanks for the welcome. Regarding my departure, let's just say that I allowed myself to get upset over something that in retrospect doesn't seem all that important when viewed in the context of everything that is going on around us.

Paul,

This is wonderful news and welcome back.
In the old, old days, we were challenging each other on the meter board.
Good thing those days are gone. Now we are just happy to get on the erg and do some meters.

Please don't hurt yourself again.

Thanks for all the greetings folks. Though I've been away for a while, you all know me so well! I'd like to say that I've become more sensible with age, but I don't like to lie. Although, maybe I have?

I guess I'll find out over the next few weeks. That niggle in my leg was a bit better today and I may venture back onto the erg tomorrow. It would be nice to see my name on the meter board again!

Welcome back to the fold Paul - it was a very pleasant surprise to see your name on the Meterboard this morning. :)

I hope that your lack of motivation will gradually diminish and you will be able to find enjoyment in rowing again. It’s a well known fact of life that overdoing things can ( usually ) prove to be counter - productive.

I have only ever seen myself as caretaker of The Millionaires club - Season Thread and would have no objections if you wished to take up the reins again, or we could of course be a double - act ...

I think you're doing a much better (and definitely much more creative) job than I ever did, Jill. But I'm happy to sub in from time to time if you go on vacation.

So, we have a doubting Thomas …  :fswink:

Paul wrote this on May 1st 2016 - I thought that the date was rather apt:

The new season's already begun
And fresh challenges wait to be done
We'll sweat and we'll strain
And we'll suffer some pain
But above all, we'll try to have fun

Thank you Paul, although you do yourself a disservice. I confess that any creativity on my part has suffered somewhat, due to a severe case of brain rot, brought on by a severe case of lockdown lethargy. 👹 I also confess to not knowing my pentameters from my enjambments.
