April Fools' Day Challenge

Post by JonT »

For those of you who may have missed it, Concept2 have launched a couple of new challenges.

The April Fools' Day Challenge is a simple one. Row 1,000m on April 1st and then add 1,000m each day until you end up with a 15,000m row on the 15th.

The link to the challenge is here - April Fools' Challenge

To add to the joy of lockdown I have now got Shingles, so I am taking it easy and won't be participating #-o

Sorry to hear about your Shingles Jon. Just a lot going around right now.
The April Fools Challenge sounds fun. A good continuation of Mud Season Madness momentum combined with the World Erg challenge

Shingles - bleurgh - thoroughly unpleasant. Hope that clears quickly and isn't a serious dose..

It appears you dont have to sign up for April Fools Day challenge, just log your metres as required. (unless I missed it) Total metres for the day as well so if you get really bored in lockdown just row between binge watching netflix series.

Hope you feel better soon Jon

Cheers

Jon, I am sorry to hear that on top of everything else, you now have shingles. A friend had this about two years ago and because the condition was diagnosed very quickly, the doctor was able to prescribe a particular medication that certainly helped to ease the symptoms. Despite the pressures on the NHS, is this the case with you?

I hope that you are having plenty of rest and lots of TLC to help boost your immune system and reduce your stress levels.

I’m not going to take part in the April Fools’ Challenge as at the moment, I don’t think I can face another challenge that ties me to a certain amount of days or metres.🤪 Instead, I’ll content myself with chugging along and contributing metres to the World Erg Challenge. No worries though of being in the red zone: think ancient paddle steamer as opposed to speed boat.

Wishing you good health. :) xxxx

Thanks for your comments all. The shingles isn’t too bad. Unfortunately I missed the 72 hour window to get the injection that helps to ease the symptoms, but they are pretty mild anyway and a heavy dose of paracetamol is keeping the pain at bay. So I count myself lucky.

But no exercise at all for me for a while, just to give my body a chance. Dog walking once a day is the limit for now.

Very best wishes to all Free Spirits.

Hello, I'm adding this message to a few of the most popular threads in the hope that as many people see it as possible. Concept2 have launched a new spring challenge, the Spring Vlll Series. It's easy to get involved if you want to. Just row 6k by 12th April and log your time in your Concept2 logbook. Our Captain Stan will then select our boats. Details are below and you can follow progress on the Spring Vlll thread. If you're reading this hopefully you'll want to join in. It would ge great to have both experienced and newer rowers involved.

Good to hear from you Boris. Made it to day 12 myself. Row and bike erg combined.

I really want to get a ski erg but have run out of space. Need to build a Man Cave

Well done Joe.
A rare 'continual' challenge for me, solely down to lockdown situation. 14k just completed, 1 more to go.

What are the chances of an April Fool 'badge' for the meter board I wonder?

Well, I might have to reuse one of the other icons, but was planning on dealing one out ;-)

Same with me. I always start these challenges but lose interest half way through. Can't go anywhere this time because of lockdown so erg on it will be :D

Now a badge is up!
I reused the bronze medal from the rowing Olympics in 2016.
As cycling and skiing counted as well, more people got the badge than the meters on the Meterboard suggest.

Enjoy !

PS I had to count on my sportsmanship to put it up as it is the only badge I don’t achieved this season and there was no existing icon to reuse as it is a new challenge ;-)
