September ctc - 1800m / 3'r / 1200m / 3'r / 1800m
Hi everyone,
team Redline Rowers (RLR) have announced the September ctc:
1800m/1200m/1800m (refering to the 18th (R) and 12th (L) letter of the alphabet)
3 mins rest between reps.
Standing start for the first rep. Subsequent reps as you like.
The second 1800 will be ugly! Any ideas re the pacing?

Peter, Wait for Wolfie to try then go a little faster
The Pete Plan 1500m x 5 5r is at 5k pace, the 2,000m x 4 is 0.5 over 5k pace. This is shorter with less rest, so maybe 2 or 3 below 5k pace (so 2 or 3 above 2k pace).

Thanks for the pacing clues. I will have to have a crack at this one early as I leave Oz for a UK conference and a few days with family later this week. I don't think after 2 weeks away I will be in much shape to do any decent erg times.MaxMacLaren1 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 27, 2019 10:04 amThe Pete Plan 1500m x 5 5r is at 5k pace, the 2,000m x 4 is 0.5 over 5k pace. It will also make me a late starter for the Fall Team Challenge
And now I notice I really should update the times on my signature.

September ctc - 1800m / 3'r / 1200m / 3'r / 1800m
Having left it a late with the last two CTC's I thought I would get in an early sighter and even managed a sprint finish so have got a bit more in the tank

Great start to the month, well done everyone.
Felton, Thank you, can't wait to get back on the erg and aim for sub 1:47!

well done ...the first boat is floated...and the 2nd full of Lwts is waiting for a woman to float ! Felton- thanks for the target - and really brave for 2 attempts so early this month.
Had a go this afternoon, thought about a overall pace of 1.47.5, after seen Feltons result decided to stay sub 1:47...first rep went pretty good, but was to exhausted to hold that pace and decided to back off in the short 1200m middle piece...to flat out in the last one. Now Colin have a target. I dont know if i do a 2nd row.
As usual, I wish everyone a great pleasure !

Re: September ctc - 1800m / 3'r / 1200m / 3'r / 1800m
I will have a go at this at the weekend, but can someone give me some advice on pacing? I've only been rowing a few weeks so I don't have a 5k time or a 2k time that I can go from - I'm at that early stage of fun but completely erratic improvements. I've embraced the beginner Pete plan and week 6 (this week) went like this:
2 lots of 7500m - one at 2.18.1 pace, one at 2.19.5 pace; 3 x 2000m r4 at 2.14.8 pace (nailed that one - all 3 intervals identical and nearly fell of the erg with exhaustion at the end); and 6 x 500 r2 which I did not nail at all, starting far too conservatively and coming out as 2.11.0, 2.10.5, 2.09.9, 2.08.9, 2.07.7 and 2.05.4.
Based on all that info, what pace for the CTC? It'd be nice to nail that and at least feel I did my best. I've probably only got one crack at it as I've a ton of work travel coming up...
Thank you!
Louise

Re: September ctc - 1800m / 3'r / 1200m / 3'r / 1800m
Hello Louise, There are lots of people with more experience than I have but this seems a good target with less meters balancing the less rest. From people who have shared their splits most are fairly balanced i.e. the 1,200m is broadly similar to the 1,800m. If you feel good on the last interval you can always do a fast finish like increasing 1.0 pace for each 100m with a few hundred meters to go!

Re: September ctc - 1800m / 3'r / 1200m / 3'r / 1800m
Hi Louise,
Like Max said, you can take your 3 x 2k / r4 as a guide for the pace in this ctc. I would estimate you can do the ctc 1 second or 1.5 sec faster per 500m. The 3 minutes rest instead of 4 in your PP session shouldn't make too much of a difference.
Perhaps do the first 1800m at 2:13-something and see how you feel from there. Just make sure you don't go too fast on the 1200m because that will come back to bite you in the last 1800m.
Good luck!

Thanks Max, Thanks Rodger,
Spot on advice from you both, and that warning about the middle one was super helpful. Didn't quite manage to hold a steady pace on the first one and thought I'd gone too fast but just about managed to hang in there in the last few 100 yards
2:12.6, 2:12.2, 2:12.6 (couldn't work out how to paste a pic!)
Definitely couldn't have gone any faster, and almost certainly would have cracked half way without your input!

Well done Louise .
After 9 days off it felt like time to gently test my foot. An evenly paced 20:00.1 @2.05.0. Hopefully there will be no ill effects tomorrow .

All fine this morning. I had planned to gradually increase pace by 5s per day but during the warm up decided to skip a day and go for 1:55. I hope I don't live to regret that. Evenly paced 18:24.1 @1:55.0. Suspect tomorrow's attempt at 1:50 will be a touch harder. And to avoid any doubt this recovery plan does not extend to Wednesday!!!

Hope the foot's on the mend Max. I'm sure you'll be firing on all cylinders by the SIRC.
Rather than leave it to the last minute again, I had a go at lunchtime. Perhaps not as easy for me to get my head around as shorter eyeballs-out intervals or steady distances but I think I give it a pretty honest attempt. Never going to be that close to top flight lightweights like Tim Male, Keith Darby, Mark Mitchell, etc on this sort of thing though.

Thanks Fred, Wolfie and Guy. Impressive time as always Guy .
Strangely my foot was the only bit that felt fine today! Lacked energy and was a little shakey prior to warm up. If it had been a full blown attempt to catch Felton I'd have HD'd before starting (not sure that is actually possible but...). Anyway 17:35.7 @1:50.0. HR averaged 147. Will probably leave my next attempt for a week or two.

Second attempt today. About 15 seconds faster then the first one, especially the last rep was faster. The first time that was merely surviving, this time my goal was to keep the first two reps approximately the same pace as before, and gain some in the last. This went according to plan.

Gave in on the this CTC. I’m not in shape for this kinds of row yet. My best 2000m is in pace 1:50 so far, so my time would be rubbish anyway on the rerow of the last 1800m.

We don't worry about times (well, it's not the absolute be all and end all ), we just like filling seats. Any time is good.
