Indoor Rowers League 2019/2020

Post by Grobi »

Hi everyone,

like the five seasons before there will be the Indoor Rowers League running from September to April next year: http://indoorrowers.org/indoor-rowers-league.

The indoor rowers league's schedule is like last season's:

September - 4 minutes
October - 1 mile
November - 6344m
December - 5000m
January - 1 minute
February - 2000m
March - 10000m
April - 500m

Like in the past seasons there will also be a team competition ("8 on 8 team competition"). One team consists of a maximum of 10 members, the eight best results of every round count towards the team result. The teams are defined by the end of September, if you aren't registered with Free Spirits as your team affiliation by then you can't be member of the team!

Last season for the first time Free Spirits had two teams participating: Team Guy and Team Philip. I think all participants agree with me that having two teams competing added some extra fun to the whole thing!

Team members were:

Team Guy:

Guy (GuidonThe Bee)
Ralf (RdGKA)
Fred (fkoene)
Ian (IanBee)
Jon (JonT)
Claudius (Claudius)
Steve (Wolfmiester)
me (Grobi)

Team Philip:

Philip (Pepe)
David (Plummy)
Felton (Caratacus)
Paul (paulgould)
Tako (Tako)
Max (MaxMacLaren1)
Andrea (AngeLC)
Iain (Iain)

Team membership was based on last year's nonathlon score and I think this method balanced out the teams quite well. My suggestion would be to use the same modus this year and I'd be happy to do that again.

But let's first see how many Free Spirits wiill actually be participating. Therefore I would like to ask Free Spirits who wants to compete this season in the IRL? Please leave a note in this thread. Once we have the minimum of 16 members we can start setting up the teams.

I kind of made up the numbers last year so I am happy to drop out if you have too many, or to stay in if you need numbers to keep two teams going.

I agree that two teams worked well last year.

I will be giving it a miss this year, so there is a space going open.

Hello,

from me a yes...if there will be 2 boats with a free slot !

my times would be slower than last year- but keeping my weight below 75kg makes me a Lwt the whole challenge - so extrapoints guaranteed ;-) !

I posted here yesterday but it seems to have disappeared. A yes from me as most of the distances are within my stamina capability (the 10k will be a challenge as I haven't completed one in months) but it's a few months away and it should be at a cooler time of year).

Thanks eyeryone for your replies so far.

The current score is:

Steve (Wolfmiester)
Marta (MSI_11)
Tako (Tako)
Felton (Caratacus)
Jon (JonT) -> might drop out if not needed
Fred (fkoene)
Philip (Pepe)
Max (MaxMacLaren1)
Claudius (Claudius) -> might drop out if not needed
Dave (plummy)
Peter (Grobi)

So that makes a total of eleven Free Spirits so far. We would need five more to set up two teams.

Well I'm a complete Noob with no nonathlon score working my way through the beginner Pete, but if you need numbers to make the teams I would be game. Team loyalty might be just what I need to keep me going. Have no hesitation in dropping me out though if you get the numbers you need. You're more than welcome Shmoo (do you have a first name?), I've added your name to the list.

Updated list of interested FS:

Steve (Wolfmiester)
Marta (MSI_11)
Tako (Tako)
Felton (Caratacus)
Jon (JonT) -> might drop out if not needed
Fred (fkoene)
Philip (Pepe)
Max (MaxMacLaren1)
Claudius (Claudius) -> might drop out if not needed
Dave (plummy)
Peter (Grobi)
? (Shmoo) -> might drop out if not needed

So that makes a total of 12 now, we need four more.

Some of last year's participants haven't replied yet. Guy? Ralf? Iain? Andrea? Ian Bee?

Hi Peter
Due to gender, age and weight my scores tend to be among the weakest, so I wouldn’t mind to drop out if we cannot make two teams.

Maybe we find some rowers, last year similar situation, too many for one boat, and to less for two... a litte bit advertising could help- and after all it was really great with 2 teams...

It looks like we have some new entries, so time for an update :D

Steve (Wolfmiester)
Marta (MSI_11)
Tako (Tako) -> might drop out if not needed
Felton (Caratacus)
Jon (JonT) -> might drop out if not needed
Fred (fkoene)
Philip (Pepe)
Max (MaxMacLaren1)
Claudius (Claudius) -> might drop out if not needed
Dave (plummy)
Peter (Grobi)
Louise (Shmoo) -> might drop out if not needed
Andrea (AngeLC)
Guy (GuidonTheBee)

So we have ten "yes" and four "maybe" so far. I do hope we get two more people in to set up two teams. If not I guess it will be the team of the ten "yes".

Thanks for bringing that up Dave, the time limit is the end of September.

However, I don't want to leave it to the last minute. I got the impression that we won't be able to create two teams this season. Or how do you folks see it?

If we set up one team I'd suggest to pick those Free Spirits that showed interest in this thread and did NOT say "I might drop out if not needed". Then the list would be as follows:

Steve (Wolfmiester)
Marta (MSI_11)
Felton (Caratacus)
Fred (fkoene)
Philip (Pepe)
Max (MaxMacLaren1)
Dave (plummy)
Peter (Grobi)
Andrea (AngeLC)
Guy (GuidonTheBee)

That would be exactly ten people. Is everyone ok with that? Especially those that are not in the team now (Tako, Jon, Claudius, Louise).

In the current month’s results I see two unteamed Free Spirits. When they want would it be possible to create two teams? Or is it still not enough then?
The people concerned are Louise Allcock and Chris Newberry.

Louise Allcock is already in the list of 14 interested FS (Shmoo). With Chris Newberry it would be 15, still one team member short of the minimum of 16.
