Classic erg comedy

Post by JonT »

I have a shiny new laptop which means I something that is actually capable of running RowPro again. Today I set up a session to test things out and have a dry run at the IRL 6344m row. Instalation went well and I managed to move the licence with no trouble. I linked to Concept 2 log with no issues too. All was looking good.

Unfortunately I fell into the trap that many RowPro users will recognise - forgetting to change the power settings on the laptop before starting the row #-o

20 minutes into the row that was going to take around 25 minutes, and enjoying the sight of clear water between me and the pace boat, admittedly set at a sluggish 2:02 pace, but still, a gap is a gap! The laptop screen has gone blank.

There is no way I am giving up that lead against my virtual opponent, so no way I am stopping for a second to sort this out. What to do?

Luckily, the laptop is in reach.....just. So at each catch I desperately swat the laptop to try to reach the touchpad. 10-15 attempts later, bingo the screen comes to life...........it's locked

But wait, the laptop is set to unlock using face recognition. I then get in the following loop:

Recovery - Windows spots I am there.
Catch - Windows: "Verifying it's you"
Leg Drive - Windows: "You are too far away"
Recovery - Windows spots I am there
Catch - Windows: "Verifying it's you"
Leg Drive - Windows: "You are too far away"

....every 2-3 seconds for the next 5 minutes!

Anyway, I still beat him, but never got to see me pass the finishing line and after initial cursing I have to admit I saw the funny side #-o
57 years old, 5"10', clinging on to 75kg and frustratingly but understandably inconsistent

Only real life can write stories like that ;-)
Having met the power save mode issue my self I can really feel your pain! Although I have to admit that my PC isn’t that fancy so I did not get that bonus!

Like it - :-) . Brought back memories of the screen/power saver (and also my antivirus making inappropriately timed appearances and blocking the entire centre of the Rowpro screen)
