I'm encouraging a fellow gym goer to try the 4 minute piece (following a successful introduction to the CTCs), so we *may* have another rower signing up.

If it's going to be two teams and no fighting for spaces I can be moved from maybe to "yes". We need to decide who is in which team though fairly quickly don't we??

We could use the results of the last ctc and alternate between the two boats - should leave the teams balanced ish?

Thanks for your suggestion Ian. However the ctc scores are based on the result itself, not taking into account age, gender and weight. But the nonathlon does for example. I think it would be more accurate to look at people's nonathlon scores or last season's IRL score (if they competed).

Edit: retrieveing last season's IRL results is impossible as they aren't listed on the website. They youngest list available dates from the 2015/2016 seasons which is a bit old imho.

I had a look at last season's nonathlon scores. I did not look at the total points because some people are competitive but don't finish all ten distances which leaves them lower in the table than they should be. I also didn't factor in the 100 bonus points for finishing all ten distances. Instead I calculated the average points per person for the distances actually rowed. The result is as follows:

_________________avg._nonathlon score_2018____________2018/2019

Alan (strider77)_______________912________________________?
Peter (Grobi)_________________853_______________________yes
David (plummy)_______________899_______________________yes

Steve (Wolfmiester)__________dns________________________yes
Iain (Iain)___________________dns________________________yes
Philip Price (Pepe)___________937________________________yes
Claudius (Claudius)___________dns________________________yes

Unfortunately I couldn't find any results for Barbara, Steve, Iain and Claudius, either because they didn't take part or because I couldn't find them in the table.

Anyway, what do you think of building the teams by comparing the average nonathlon score?

I've never done the nonathlon.

I would prefer not to log scores for this IRL season unless you really truly need a body. Just a lot going on this year, and feeling quite overwhelmed as it is.

Thanks.

Hello,

I also didnt the Nonathlon because of missing ranking pieces in my training plan...i want to change that ! And of course i only take part if we could establish 2 teams- it is also my opinion we should prefer solution 3- equal teams - good idea ! I could also ask in the gym if someone want to take part...perhaps we are 20 in the end of the month ! I made a middle strength 4 min go yesterday before biking. And this is the difficulty
: " Dancing on two weddings" or better in english "to have one's cake and eat it, too " But i really like biking, especially in summer 8) !

I think, unless we have around 20 we may struggle with two teams. If we can't get to that number then I am happy to drop out as one of the weaker team members and a newcomer to IRL. But if we have decent numbers then I am definitely in.

Excellent point on the rankings Grobi, which means nonathon (as many distances as are available) averaged seems fairest.

If the teams can wait until late September, we could see how many others can be encouraged....

I personally love the imagery relating to dancing at two weddings 😁

I may have signed up another lady (Andrea Lewis Coker - who smashed the 6 x 1 for us last month). The big question with (as Ian says "encouraging others") is do they even know this is going on and everyone is welcome to give it a shot. This is a handicapped event if I remember correctly so it's not reserved for the "fast" people and Free Spirits ethos is more to encourage having a go anyway. There 316 people list on the Meterboard and we're struggling to get 20 to row one distance/time once a month for 8 months - that can't be right surely unless people simply are not reading the forum???

I confess to being slightly adrift of Facebook (and whether it's frequented by anyone different - I can't see many updates in the pages I have access to), but maybe an image and weblink could be shared around to drum up interest?

Peter - if you are happy to take ownership of this, why don't you use the Nonathlon scores that are available and split them into 2 equal teams. We'll then know how many bodies we are short and how many people we need to find/add/recruit. If you put Andrea Lewis Coker (shiny new) into my team, whichever that is it'll bump the numbers up by one (she's local to me anyway).

We can't let this drift or we'll run out of time. I've already got a 4 mins from last night to log.

I've tried to split the availabla nonathlon scores as evenly as possible:

Team A____________________Team B

Philip (937)________________Ralf (906)
Jon (835)__________________Ian (848)
David (899)________________Fred (889)
Peter (853)________________Tako (861)
Max (876)_________________Paul (870)
Felton (854)

Avg.: 875.7________________874.8

That's the most even split I could manage. Ralf, is it ok for you, if I count you in?

We also have members without a nonathlon score and one new member. As requested by Dave I put Andrea into Team A and allocate Iain, Steve and Claudius to the best of my knowledge:

Team A____________________Team B

Philip (937)________________Ralf (906)
Jon (835)__________________Ian (848)
David (899)________________Fred (889)
Peter (853)________________Tako (861)
Max (876)_________________Paul (870)
Felton (854)_______________Steve
Andrea___________________Claudius
Iain

Is everybody ok with that? I'm happy to swap members if there are any objections.

We are now one person short of the minimum of 8 persons per team.

That's great news Guy, we now have two teams completed! Your average nonathlon score last season was 964 points  , so I adjusted the teams:

____________Free Spirits_______________

Team Guy__________________Team Philip

Guy (964)__________________Philip (937)
Ralf (906)__________________David (899)
Fred (889)__________________Max (876)
Peter (853)_________________Paul (870)
Ian (848)___________________Tako (861)
Jon (835)___________________Felton (854)
Steve______________________Andrea
Claudius___________________Iain

Avg.: 882.5________________882.8

Everybody ok with that?

Good idea Max! I named the teams accordingly unless somebody has a better idea?

We are now at the minimum of eight persons per team. Any more takers are more than welcome :D

Looks good Peter - I think you need to add the new team names to the 8on8 Team name list if you haven't already done that, and then we can affiliate our Rower Profile to the new team.

I‘m going to do that Paul. The only slight issue I can see with the team names is that in future seasons we might have different top people for the teams. We wouldn‘t want to create new teams then, would we?

So are there suggestions for other team names? Or should we carry on with the ones we have to honour our team leaders of the first Free Spirits two teams IRL season :D
