August ctc - 6 x 1' / 1'r, rolling starts except #1

Post by Grobi »

Hi all,

Team Once we were Tribesports have announced the August ctc:

"6 x 1min with 1min rest between intervals

Start with a standing start for the first rep, subsequent reps as you like. Record the distance for the 6min of work, not including rests."

This should be a popular I think.
Athletes row, others just play games

I've got a sinking feeling this will be faster than 1km pace

Tried this morning with heavy legs and was a little off that pace.

Potentially a lot faster

Even taking into account that 1k is my least favourite distance I suspect circa 5s faster pace. One of my Pete Plan routines is 10 x 1m 1mr with a best pace of 1:36.5. So allowing for rolling starts plus "only" 6 intervals I'm hoping for sub 1:35.0. My best 1k is @ 1.39.8 which may be a little dated but still a big difference. Interested in what others feel and Iain is usually good at pace prediction.

Also interested to see how Tako and hewitt get on given their power.

I'm inclined to agree with Max that 1k pace is too slow a target for a 6 x 1min - especially with the rolling starts. My 1k SB is about 1:45.5 pace but I think maybe 1:43 might be doable if I nail the starts well enough...

Pete always claimed 10 x 1'r1' was at 1k pace, so should be several S/500m faster, but never tried it. Having just done the July one, not looking forward to this one at all!

LOL  (The extra book in the series is very good by the way, and I'd recommend. "The Girl in the Spiders Web")

As I talked my daughter in to having a go this morning, part of the bargain was me doing it too.
Started at 1:45 and neg split.
Distance of 1758 @ 1:42.3
Only right I give Peter the target I suppose O:)

I listened, really I did, but I was also immensely dense in my first attempt at this one.

My Nonathlon time for 1k is currently 3:56. So, a pace of 1:58. I used this as my basis, agreed with others that the ctc pace should be quicker than that, didn't want to kill myself on the first attempt, so set a target pace of 1:55. Here is what happened - a picture of what garbage pacing looks like

1:00.0 267m 1:52.3 151
1:00.0 272m 1:50.2 159
1:00.0 275m 1:49.0 167
1:00.0 279m 1:47.5 170
1:00.0 284m 1:45.6 176
1:00.0 289m 1:43.8 180

Giving 1665m at an average pace of 1:48. Honestly, how wrong could I have been #-o

As soon as I had started I realised that the Nonathlon pace was nonsense and this was going to be far too easy a session. The Nonathlon score must either be derived from a longer distance or just a really, really bad session.

So, the next one should be steadier. Anyone care to 'reverse engineer' my target 1k time from all of this?

Well done fellow first dayers  . I went out too fast in interval 1, blew up and limped home in 4 and 5 then went at a more sensible pace for interval 6. Still pleased I didn't HD. 1871m @1:36.2. Pace 3.6s faster than 1k. Suspect with better timing I can go below 1:36 but my aim of sub 1:35 looks optimistic!

With all those efforts, I thought I'd try too.

I attempted 1km -2 average, which broadly is where I ended up. But I'm slightly concerned that it really needs to be 43s all the way, as Plummy rightly suggested.

Yes you will go sub 1:35 ! This ctc you got the better cards on the hand... and without intention my target for every interval today was 316m (1:34.9 pace) - damn, i was a bit to quick in the last rep ! but for a ocd row strokerate was also different...i dont know if i manage another go...vacation...familiy...no time and opportunity to erg in the next 2 weeks...lets have a look

everybody have fun with it

Just paddled it as cool down after PP session, to get a score and to get a feeling for it.
Will be interesting to see how fast I can go in a full attempt. Maybe 1:42ish. Will see ;-)

When looking at the top of the C2CTC page I can not see anything regarding standing/rolling start while this thread suggests only standing for the first. Did I overlook something??

On all six? I mean last five is normal as the rest is only 1 minute, but the first?

First go tonight and so the Bee/Plummy shenanigans starts with me pipping him by 16m - whassat, about 2 strokes in 6 minutes?? I thought I was going to have one on the 4th rep - bleurgh, where did all the oxygen go (I hate that panicky/can't breathe feeling, it's terrifying)

Most recent 500 1:51.1
Most recent 1k 2:02.4
Both of those seem fair given my current fitness

Tried drag 116
1:59.0x, 1:59.0x, 1:58.5x, 1:58.1x, 1:56.7x, 1:53.6x
1532m 1:57.4x

I'm sure it just gets steadily more painful no matter how you approach it, so... good luck to everyone.

The post in the C2CTC thread says standing start for the first rep. It doesn’t matter that the C2CTC page doesn’t mention it. It’s standing start for first rep, and rolling starts allowed for subsequent reps, unless specifically stated otherwise.

That is a great Pete Plan style row and I suspect you have a little more in the tank! I will certainly try hard to ensure you have another go by the end of the month :D .
