I promised I wouldn't post here unless I got a nonathlon score worth 900 points or more. I had a very soft SB for the 6k (24:58.4) and I figured I should be able to do it in around 1:58 pace, based on my recent CTC pace. I managed to keep to that pace for thw first 3k, but struggled a bit in the second half and fell slightly short of my target overall. But it was worth 918 nonathlon points, so I get to post my splits, which were as follows:

Distance Time Pace Rating Heart Rate
1000 3:55.8 1:57.9 30 145
2000 3:55.6 1:57.8 31 156
3000 3:56.1 1:58.1 30 162
4000 3:57.4 1:58.7 31 166
5000 3:58.1 1:59.1 30 167
6000 3:54.4 1:57.2 31 172

Thanks Tako. I'm actually starting to enjoy erging again, although I am a long way short of my PBs from a few years back. My key priority is to stay injury free and I know this is going to be a challenge as I tend to overdo things when I get on a roll. I'm definitely feeling a few twinges, but the weight loss has helped as my lower back is no longer trying to deal with an enormous gut!

Well - that was unexpected. Decided at the last minute to try for a HM to add a few metres for the challenge and set up some distraction pace boats on Rowpro. I managed to distract myself very well and ended up with a season's best time by 33.3s getting down to - 1:26:20.1.

I didn't intend on going fast at all so never looked at my SB to date but when I saw the predicted time start dropping into the 1:26's I convinced myself it was either 1:26:45 or 1:26:32 so kept pushing as hard as I dared. I actually stopped for quick drink with about 5.5km to go (felt necessary for survival). What's more, looking back - it's my my best HM since the 2012/13 season (which was 1:26:12) - so a 6 yr SB - bit of a happy camper

I managed to do a semi decent HM yesterday afternoon. I didn't quite make the 900 points mark (895), but was very pleased to get under 1 hour 30 minutes, having been almost 1 hour 37 on my previous attempt. It was a real exercise in concentration, as I wasn't sure I'd actually complete the distance until around 5k to go and I kept all my splits between 2:07.8 and 2:08.3 until the final 1097m, which I managed to complete in just under 2:00 pace to finish in 1:29:45.3.

I had another go at the 10k for this month's IRL. I figured I should be able to beat my previous time of 41:15.8, but my aim was to get as close as possible to 40 minutes and ideally get just under it, although I figured this would be quite a stretch target.

I managed to keep my pace around 2:00/2:01 until the 7k mark, when I began to struggle a bit. AT this stage, I knew that 40 minutes was not really on, but was determined to get as close as possible. Managed to pick it up a bit towards the end to finish in 40:09.1, which is worth 907 nonathlon points. Splits were as follows:

Distance Time Pace Rating
1000 4:01.2 2:00.60 30
2000 4:01.0 2:00.50 32
3000 4:01.2 2:00.60 33
4000 4:01.8 2:00.90 33
5000 4:01.3 2:00.65 32
6000 4:01.3 2:00.65 31
7000 4:01.7 2:00.85 31
8000 4:02.4 2:01.20 31
9000 4:01.8 2:00.90 32
10000 3:55.3 1:57.65 34

I had my second go at the IRL 10k yesterday. I had done a 19:03.0 a week before which I was fairly happy with but I wanted to try and see if I could dip below 39 minutes, like I had done already six months ago. Plan was to start out at 1:58 pace for the first 3 or 4 km and thensee if and how much I can speed up from there:

F9F07CD3-4CE4-4849-97F4-0582F8C279EF.png
F9F07CD3-4CE4-4849-97F4-0582F8C279EF.png (41.14 KiB) Viewed 1912 times
First three km went by nicely so I decided to test what a 1:57 pace would feel like. It felt ok, so with 3k to go it was time to speed up further. No 1:57s allowed from this point and with the final k coming up I was pretty confident to beat 39 minutes. I dropped the pace further down to 1:55 and with occasional 1:53s I could see the projected finish go down to the 38:55 area. I remembered my SB was around 38:55. Wouldn‘t it be great to set a new SB? It would indeed but that required some more pain  So for the final 500m the task was to go as fast as possible, pulling 1:48s and below that. It was pretty tough, but in the end I managed a new SB by 7.1 seconds. Not much but very happy to have gone below the 39 minutes mark again :D

Well done Peter. =D> =D> =D> Great pacing.

I bailed out on an attempt to improve my CTC distance today. I was a bit annoyed with myself, so I decided to do a 500m TT. Managed to knock 2.1 seconds off my previous best and achieve my second highest nonathlon score (914 points). Very high stroke rate and a complete fly and die, but nobody's perfect.

Splits were as follows:

Distance Time Pace Rating Heart Rate

I decided to have a go at my very soft 5k today, which was over 2 seconds per 500m slower than my most recent 10k. My target was to start at 1:55 pace and see if I could hold this throughout. I managed OK for the first 3k, but began to struggle in the 4th kilometer and it took a kamikaze final sprint to bring my average split back down to just marginally under my target, finishing in 19:09.9 @ 1:54.99 pace. Happy enough with this. Gives me my highest nonathlon score of the season at 932 and my first top decile performance of the season in a ranked distance.

Splits were as follows:

Distance Time Pace Rating Heart Rate
1000 3:50.1 1:55.0 32 140
