Nice job Felton getting back to form =D>
Alan, you're safe for now and probably for longer as I'm sure you'll have another go. But so will I and I like the competition between us, should help us both :fswink: I hope Dave and Steve will join in though.

Well done Peter very nice row =D>

I hope Steve and Dave make it a nicely competitive CTC this month, will have another go on Tuesday

Here is my take on it:
http://blog.rowsandall.com/2016/11/04/t ... onranking/

A 3:21.4 was the result. I guess I have to update my SB score in the signature.

Got some real lung burn after this one - very satisfactory improvement to 3:31.3 ( was 3:37.9 ). 200m splits as follows:

1:45.0
1:45.2
1:46.7
1:46.7
1:44.5

34spm average.
Looked back it is better than by SB for 2013/14 & 2014/15 (and 2.3s slower than my best for last year)

43Mm metres rowed. Re-setting the bar much lower now. Getting too old for this malarky

While by no means matching the above pace, I tried to at least follow the spirit of it.

In my case this meant a very steady 1km at slighly slower than 10km pace, then have a good attack at the CTC. The end result was that:
1) I didn't feel quite like I was suffocating until the last 100m (definitely a good thing);
2) While hard, I made it to 450m at reasonable stroke rate;
3) I felt sufficiently ok to stretch out with a steady hour row following (not a record breaker @ 13641m, but extra meterage on my previous C2 distance).

Not a huge improvement for the CTC itself, but I am pleased with an end time of 3.44.1. By next Sunday, hopefully there will be an achievable target rower a couple of tenths ahead of me for added motivation to improve.

Nice one Ian - great time. I think a very strong warm up is essential for short sprints.

I persuaded the lovely Jennifer to do the CTC today when she got back from a long week. We now have our first boat floating this month.

An improvement, but I'd hazard the stroke rate needs attention and the last 200m shows my lack of anaerobic experience. But happy.

Definitely starting to fade at the end those last 300m. It's always hard to stick with it when you see your pace start to slow.

So, well done for sticking it out! Keep them coming! ^O^ ^O^

Hello and a well done to all those who go thru the 1k-tunnel of pain...i think this almost hurts more then the 10k-tunnel...

So this one really was very nerve-racking...cause after this injury...the 10k felt ok...but i realised trying the 1k...lost a lots of sprint power...never had so much HD...it must have been round about 10 the last 3 weeks...

my first serious attempt was a 3:14min as target (as my SB was a 3:12min before injury)...but HD came as lightning after 600m...so no result.

Yesterday with a little bit more ease i finished in 3:18.1min, first 100m sprint, then target 1:41min pace and had a small "pfiff" left in the tanks to get under 1:40min, so here are the splits:

1 37.4 1:33.5 40 155
2 40.3 1:40.8 34 164
3 40.3 1:40.8 33 170
4 40.3 1:40.8 34 175
5 39.8 1:39.5 38 178
3:18.1min 1000m 1:39/500m

8.1 seconds behind PB...thats still a lots of water between...

sorry Paul to bring you on shore...but i am sure a wonderful Lady bring you back in a floated boat soon !

I completed a time for this last week - 4.33.0 which is five tenths of a second slower that my PB.

Had two previous attempts but lost heart and slowed down in the middle of both of them - not sure if I will have another go.

I’ll hang on for a few more days before posting on the CTC as both Jennifer and Gillian look rather fine up there in Boats I and II :D and I’d rather not be the one responsible for dislodging them. :fswink:

Fine rowing everyone. 8) =D> :)

That's true. But on the other hand, there are 4 Free Spirits sitting ashore in Boat III waiting for someone to float their boat.

GREAT job, Jill! Five-tenths off your PB? That's awesome. I agree with Claudius there's something terrible, awful about a 1k!

I think you should do it again! Just an opinion, not related to me not having done it 8-[

Also kudos to Jennifer and Gillian! And the gentlemen who've done the distance.

Thank you kind lady! 'Tis great to be afloat (temporarily at any rate).

Hope to get back into the saddle again before too long. Seeing the physio again this afternoon after doing practically no erging for the last two weeks and also not doing the exercises he gave me as often as I was supposed to. #-o [-X

Thanks Alan. I'm going to try to get a session in this afternoon. Part of the problem is that I'm finding it difficult to motivate myself. Maybe a good, sharp 1000m is what I need to get the juices flowing again.

Last attempt:
Time Meters /500m Watts Cal/Hr s/m 3:40.1 1,000m 1:50.0 263 1204 30 0:44.3 200m 1:50.7 258 1187 28 0:43.8 400m 1:49.5 267 1218 29 0:43.9 600m 1:49.7 265 1211 30 0:44.1 800m 1:50.2 261 1197 31 0:43.9 1,000m 1:49.7 265 1211 34
For the CTC I think the tanks are empty, but I'm certainly positive about improving generally. Looking at the split breakdown, it reflects how I felt - that last 350m was tough, though at least I could match my breathing to pace :D

Good luck to anyone making attempts before months end!

Finally done. 4:02.2 Haven't been doing any sprint workouts lately and I paid for it today. This was ugly and painful. Completely lost it at about 3 minutes, battled back temporarily and lost it again at the end and paddled in the last few strokes. But, I didn't HD. :) And I think that floats another boat.

Great effort everyone! Nice to see the boats getting onto the water. Any ladies around to give the 1k a try? One day left and I bet the last remaining boat would like to be on the water as well. Would be great to leave no one behind! Only 2 days left.

i'm a bit hampered by my knee problems, but I wanted to at least post a score. I put a bandaid across the rail to give me a subtle reminder to avoid going to full compression and did a few 1K pieces. I started at 1:55 pace, which was not tough, but it was weird trying to get used to the short slide version of my stroke. Then I did one at a 1:50 pace. Now I was getting a bit more comfortable with it.

Then I went for it. I held 1:40 for the first 800m and then pushed a little harder for a final time of 3:19.5. Not my best work, but it will have to do.
