TV Box sets

Post by webberg »

As I've apparently acquired netflix and Amazon and the long evening are here, I'm looking for recommendations.

I have seen House, Mad Men, Elementary and recently Lilyhammer (brilliant). Seen House of Cards as well - best thing I've seen on TV in perhaps 15 years.

I've tried Breaking Bad (not my thing).

not really into horror or gore.

I loved Breaking Bad and really didn't enjoy House of Cards so I'm probably going to be way off target. How about the Nordic Noir scene. All three series of The Killing and The Bridge would be where I would start. They also have the American version of The Killing on Netflix.

I hear Fargo as a series is very good. I loved the movie.

How about some old school classic comedy?

- Thick of it

The Wire still gets my vote as the best TV I've see in years.

It's high up on my list to watch, but for now it isn't available on Netflix or Amazon Prime unless you pay extra. Thinking about it, I should have put the actual box set on the Christmas list!

I thought of a couple more on the walk in to work this morning. Both a bit left-field:

- Orange is the new black which I really enjoyed, but it is a black comedy set in a female prison.
- Battlestar Galactica (the 2009 remake) is excellent. Much more about the characters and story than the sci-fi and special effects.

Appreciate the feed back and I'll give some of them a try.

The main character in Breaking Bad unfortunately looks exactly like a good friend of mine and I can't take him seriously!

The Bridge, series 3 we've nearly finished and I just love the "Saga" character.
