WAARC - June 2013 - 1km

Post by plummy »

OK guys and gals - new month and a new challenge - a nice an snappy 1k. I've started a table borrowing a few times from the CTC first reps but you can have as many attempts as you like so don't worry if rep1 of the CTC is no where near representative of your best effort.

Please remember to add an age and weight on the day of the row.

I'll post the table when I have a couple more entries
60 yrs old, 76kg, 5' 10"
43Mm metres rowed. Re-setting the bar much lower now. Getting too old for this malarky

This is from a flat out 4 minutes as the last set of a Step Test - a bit tenuous, does it count :?:
No prob if it's not admissible as I'll be doing the CTC soon anyway.

I've put yours in for now Richard - but you are right it's not really permissible as not a straight 1k. If you have another go at a straight 1k, you'll do better anyway
(corrected table from my last post - Bill and Alan aren't ladies  . I'd left the 5% adjuster for ladies in their calculations #-o )

If I hadn't porked out a bit and gone up to 71kg it may have been more of a challenge for Bill and Alan to take it back

Was impressed you had a SB Dave but then I remembered that the season is only a month old - but well done all the same

So I have been enjoying the past 3 weeks, start of my off season down here; starting to get chilly and so doing some nice steady state rows on the erg and water has been the plan. Next race probably not until October or November, so will be a good few months without experiencing the pain of a 1k race.....

So of course this month's Waarc selection has brought out the  in me and I will of course have a good go at it. Since I've been doing longer stuff and also recently had a cold I figured the 4x 1k Pete plan session would be good for this morning to get me back into shorter stuff, and I could use one of the reps as a 'placeholder' for the Waarc.

Of the 2 reps I remembered to do off a standing start, my best was 1:54.6. Weight 64.6kg, age 41.

Aiming to go faster next time

I assume that was your split and not your total time?

Ha - yes it was! I think of everything in terms of split, forget sometimes that's not appropriate!
Thanks

Cheers Dave-Bill did a 3:23.4 on the last day of last month so in some time zone somewhere surely that counts as June ? :D

Anyway he will kill my time when he gets his boots on

Well sadly I didn't get to have a proper go at the 1k - meant to, but my coach reckoned that being the off season down here I should just be doing a whole lot of long steady state rows which I have been doing.. And because I have mainly been doing them on my RowPerfect in my garage (where I can watch my Dr Who DVDs  ) rather than on the Concept2s we have at the boatshed I can't even really share my rows as the calibration of speed on the RowPerfect is different to on the Concept2s!! Funny after doing a whole lot of steady state rows (I've been doing approx. 65k a week) how the idea of doing a short time trial doesn't seem too attractive!

I guess we should think about something for July - any suggestions?

We've had a 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and a 60 mins - how about a 30 mins?
