Bits arrived yesterday from C2 so fitted new seat rollers & bungy cord - handle now rockets back to the cage!!! Also got new HR strap!!
Today power strokes 5x4minsR90s. Legs feeling yesterdays efforts swithered whether to do long steady row or not, #-o in the end went for power strokes.
Rounds 1-4 at drf 170; round 5 at drf 120. Spm see below.

I'm impressed that your sprinting was so good despite the rating being less than you used to do. 2 good sessions in the bag.

Today couldn't finish anything. H/D in a 10k not sure why, one minute it was going well then the next I had sopped! Started the CTC, managed 2,471m on one (although I don't think that would have been repeatable as I ended struggling to pull 2:03s), then at end of first minute of the second, straining to match the pace of the first, felt a sharp pain in my back so stopped that (using DF130 rather than the 115 I have used since hurting my back in last month's CTC). Tried several other things finally finishing a 45'. Ended with 31k for the day. But several hours later my back is aching continually so may not do the intended row tomorrow.
52 year old Lwt (in ability and weight) trying to develop a technique that doesn't cause hysterics and start rowing regularly now I am working again.

Bad luck Iain - I feel your pain. For me HD on R5 of 8x500 today, :twisted: HR was not coming down in rest periods as much as last time & just matching last time splits was an effort. I suppose 3x short interval sessions in 4 days is not a great training schedule! [-X :lol: Unlike you Iain I just bagged it for the day. Will have a few days off and regroup. Feel like I am a bit stale at the moment not sure why. #-o Hope your back recovers fast Iain.

Thoroughly motivation posts, and I'm lurking and reading.

My voyage back to something like reasonable CV fitness is up to week 12 of my modified Fletcher plan. The base 2km time is at 7.40, so it's still quite soft compared to these heady times but my HR mostly doesn't lie (!) and my relative effort for faster times is heading in the right direction. As I hit mid 30s for the base time, I can foresee a nasty wall but that's a few weeks away...... Image

Today was a very leisurely 2x 30 at sub FM pace accompanied by Antebellum (sky film, rather dark....).

I give it another month before I can't resist the CTC again....

Ian - All of these long rows are bound to be having a positive impact. I see you plugging away on Strava every day, and still don;t understand how you manage it so early in the day. They are also doing your Meterboard position a world of good - looking like a top-20 finish is on the cards.

Iain - 2,471 for the CTC would have been a good result, shame about the back pain. Is it any better?

Spider - good to see all that new kit is bringing out some strong results.

I am finally getting back to a position where I feel "normal" when rowing. Today I did another Rowalong, mid-tier session from the 5k plan. I have to admit I sometimes struggle not to start laughing when listening to John Steventon. Today's classic was "If I had my time again I would train to be a pilot. But when I was younger my aim was to be the drummer in Van Halen which oddly enough never happened. I hadn't worked out that the drummer was Alex Van Halen and nepotism was always going to be a factor in deciding who the band's drummer was. Oh well". How he gets all of this stuff out mid-session is beyond me. :lol:

Anyway the format was 10/4/10/4 minutes 2min rests. Rating 20/24/20/28. Pace 2K + 18/12/18/6 with a max-effort final minute at r28. I did all of the intervals 1-2 seconds above the target pace without too much stress.

So a busy week this week & not been or going to be much erging. :twisted: Today a 30minR20, HR capped at 148, feeling quite tired so not expecting much just get some time in. :shock:

I did a Rowalong "Top Tier" row. The structure is 12x2:00 1:00r at 5k pace and 5k rating. For me this is 1:55.8 @ 30spm (John uses 28spm for 5k and I used that in ErgZone by mistake). As an aside 30spm actually sounds high for a 5K but that is where I felt comfortable, I wonder if I am overcooking it though.

Anyway, the advice was to stick to 5k pace for the first six intervals, then try to improve on it for the last 6, and really push the final interval without resorting to a rating increase.

I found this really tough, but mainly because I went over my 5k pace in every interval, sometimes by 2 seconds or more #-o

Anyway, I enjoyed it, but missed the brief on a number of fronts. Maybe I will have to try this again.

Nice work Jon - though the +2s was a stern challenge by the look.

Nearly at the end of my first Fletcher cycle, and today was a repeat of earlier in the week. Should have been alternating 5k and HM pacing. In terms of perceived exertion, it was quite straight forward but my current heart rate monitor (Coros Apex) was misbehaving much more than usual so I don't have confidence in either the lows or highs..... I'd hope as the weather improves the variations will diminish, but I wrecked my wahoo arm HR way too quickly for my wallet's liking, and I can't get on with chest versions.

Next week will be 2k base time of 7.39 (still some way off PB levels but it's feeling closer to 'work').

Week 5 of 8 on my ‘meal plan’ and off erg exercise regime. I’ve gone from 92kg to 85kg now, which is great, but not sure how much strength/power I will have lost (if any). Will have to see when I jump back on.
Rowing otw and golfing regularly now, so the erg will be back soon.

Amazing weight loss - well done!!
I don't think you will lose much strength , if any - and besides, with your height and a good long stroke you don't rely on strength as much as a shortarse like myself :fsbgrin: :fsbgrin:

So only one erg session last week - house hunting & 3 days skiing getting in the way. :shock: Decided to have yet another go at 8x500 but be a bit more sensible & follow petes reccomendation of dropping a split for each week off. Target was 1.45.0 or just under.

I'm sticking with a selection of sessions from the Rowalong 5k plan. Today's was a "mmid tier" session. 5x5k at 5k+1 pace and 5k rating. For me that is 1:56.8 and 30 spm.

I really do need to get the hang of the idea of mid-tier. I went 1-2 seconds too quick in every interval and was shattered by the end i.e. not mid-tier at all for me [-X #-o

I'm glad you did 5min intervals not 5k :fsgrin: Nicely done if not the intention. Note to self, get on the rower!

I feel queezy at the thought of 500m sprints, so nice work Spider! Equally with JTs push on 5min reps!!

Back at the Fletcher plan ranch: restarting the entire plan cycle at 7.39 base pace and it feels just fine right now. HR monitor silliness took the shine off the positive vibes a tiny bit, but relative effort wise this is all heading in the right direction.

Might be in reasonable enough shape for a marathon in May....
