BINGO CHALLENGE

Post by webberg »

I've posted some ideas for the above on the ELM thread but this is here to bring it to the attention of those who don't normally view the challenges there.

Since yesterday, I've amended the terms of the piece and prepared some numbers. It now works as follows.

Each person who wants to enter has to ask me for a BINGO card. This card has 30 numbers that have been selected via a random number generator adjusted so as not to repeat. The numbers range form 1 to 90.

Every day during the quarter 1st January 2007 to 31st March 2007, a number will be drawn.

That number will represent a piece to do. The pieces are varied. Some are very short, some intervals, some pyramids, some using specific drag factors (slide position). The longest is 12k. The shortest 300m.

If that number is on your card, you have that piece to do before you can cross it off. The piece should be done with 3 days of the draw being made.

I will create an ELM challenge. Once you have done the piece, record the time on the ELM board. Obviously the time will increase each time a piece is done.

The first person to complete 10 pieces will be able to deduct 10 mins from their total. First person to 20 pieces can deduct 20 minutes. If the same person gets to 10 and 20 pieces first then the total deduction is 20 minutes.

The first person to get to a full house can deduct 30 minutes, subject to the rule above. Next person to a full house can deduct 29 minutes and so on.

This is because at present I have prepared 30 cards.

I have dropped for the time being the idea of buying a card and donating the pool to charity as this is a bit too time consuming for now.

In order to join, you need to ask me for a card. You do this by picking a number between 1 and 30 and I'll send/post the card.

The challenge willl begin on January 1st. I will use a random number generator each day to produce a number. On Fridays I will pick 4 numbers as I cannot access the generator at weekends and some people like to row early am and will perhaps need to know the Monday number early.

The challenges are varied. Some are hard. Some are very easy. They do include all the ranking distances to 10k. There are presently no "junior" versions but these can no doubt be adapted from those already set if any of our little Spirits wish to join.

So you need to be lucky rather than quick if you want to be top of the board at the end of March.

I'm off to set up the ELM board but feel free to ask questions or ask for a card.

Good luck. 8)

Mr BWD - what number card would you like.

If I send you the card, do you also want to know what challenge they correspond to - or shall I keep you in suspense?

Also guys/girls, I cannot set the ELM board yet as we don't yet have a January to March league and I'm too much of an IT muppet to do this.

The card however have a table to record times and I will set something up asap in January.

Lets go for No. 13 - has always been my lucky number.

Keep me in suspense as to what each number actually relates to!

Cheers

Well, it sounds wonderfully complex, and I've struggled to keep up with the advent calendar challenge, but what the hell - now I need to pick a number. I'll have 25, as that's my finishing position at BIRC this year...

FS 2007 January to March league now created. (You'll all need to join it before you'll see Graham's challenge (once he's entered it, of course))

All of the above Bingo Cards have been despatched.

I'm not going to disclose the challenges until their number is drawn.

The distance range over the three months is between 128,000 and 158,000. Each card has a range of sprints and middle distance pieces.

There are NO free numbers!

I also need the next person who picks a number to choose one for me as well please.

Tom, thanks for that.

My card has a total distance of 130, 300 which is a middling distance in this challenge.

Roy Hobbs? :?:

By pyramid I mean a piece that might be 4k/3k/2k/1k/500m. Equally might be the reverse. What's a reverse pyramid?

Is it dimaryp? :P

Incidentally the above piece is not in this challenge.

Numbers taken to date are:

1, 8, 9, 13, 16, 17, 25.

This leaves 23 cards (although I can always produce more).

Total distances range from about 130k to about 160k over three months. That's about 10k a week so everybody should be able to take part.

Mash is now in and I have sent him his card.

Numbers now taken are:

1, 8, 9, 13, 14, 16, 17, 25.

Presently 30 cards in total prepared, so 22 left.

I have also decided that if a number is drawn and you can't do that piece, then the time you should enter is the best time you have done for the nearest ranking distance, PLUS 3 secs per 500.

We can work these outr as we go along.

Peter, go to the ELM website and log in.

You may need to register first.

Once logged in, find the league you want.

If you are looking to join the BINGO one, this will be the Free Spirits league for January to March 2007. On that line, look to the right and toggle the "join" word.

This puts you into the league.

When the challenge opens, you can go to that league, pick a challenge and enter a time via the "Post and Entry" or "Edit" key.

Hope this helps. :D
