Re: EIRC 2017
Hey - Thats Me !
Thanks for the positive vibes all. And well done to plummy ! In the event both my 2k & 500m were at the same time as plummy (typo in the schedule) so I didn't get a chance to see him race but we did have a good chinwag in between.
Pleased to sneak the 2k bronze as I knew I wasn't in PB form. Settled into my cruise a bit slower than I'd have preferred and spent the first 1500m watching Ben in 3rd slip slowly out to about 22m ahead of me but not daring to push any harder. At 500 I started to turn the screw & brought the gap back to about 12m but Ben was clearly also sprinting by then & catching him didn't look on at all. A final eyeballs out 200m left me lying on the floor & I had to ask whether I'd caught him or not. It'd be fascinating to see a stroke by stroke breakdown of that final sprint but I've not seen those sort of charts from a race for a few years. Quite a race for the line !
And yes, it did sting a bit !

Re: EIRC 2017
Here's my effort in all its gory detail. You can see the imbalance in my leg drive - which is quite severe. I've got some work to do to correct that.

Re: EIRC 2017
Well ....
It's been a while since I was in an event , but having missed BRIC 2015 & 2016 and missed a lot of gym time .... ( reasons, excuses , blah , blah, blah) I decided that EIRC was an opportunity not to be missed. I echo Plummy's comments on turning up despite not expecting a medal. PB's & SB's are my motivation and you cant beat the roar of the crowd for that extra motivation!
7:23.3 = SB
Well done to all those who took part

It was a pleasure to meet up with you again David and to watch your two races.
Much admiration for the stirling efforts of yourself, =D> Ian =D> and new medal holder Guy. =D>
I know that you are all experienced competitors but it must still take some courage to overcome your nerves, during those brief few seconds, before that horrible klaxon goes off.

Re: EIRC 2017
Well done Dave, Ian and Guy!
Dave - I'm always amazed at how smooth and easy rowing looks compared to how it feels. I was surprised to count your strokes and find you rowing at around 43-45 spm on your sprint! You seemed so relaxed (up until the last 250m or so)!
You had much better form than the guy next to you!

Re: EIRC 2017
Thanks Zoot. I've had that comment from many observers re my technique but I can assure you I'm not happy with it and have to fight every stroke to try and stay consistent. I now believe it is a calf muscle/achilles issue and not wonky hips as I have thought for years and I'm still trying to correct it but many millions of metres of bad form are going to take a heck of a long time to sort out.
Re stroke rate I was pulling between 31~33 on my 2k until the last 300m or so and didn't deviate from that. I would struggle to get to 45spm in a 100m sprint and certainly couldn't hold it for 2000m.
You are spot on though regarding it looking smooth and easy in comparison to how it "feels"

Re: EIRC 2017
Regarding stroke rate, I was referring to your 500m row. I counted 43 strokes in the first minute (after the first 5 pulls). I could definitely see where someone poured treacle over your head at around 250m...plummy wrote:Re stroke rate I was pulling between 31~33 on my 2k until the last 300m or so and didn't deviate from that. (I could follow the link provided by Richard, but I couldn't watch the 2k row because my browser doesn't play embedded video.)

Re: EIRC 2017
Did anybody get any splits from EIRC 2017 , or know where to get them ?
As an end of season treat ( or is it benchmark setting for BIRC 2017?) I'm doing the Midlands IRC on Sun 2nd April in Birmingham and using a 4 session per week Pete Plan as my guide.

Not seen any splits and don't recall getting any from EIRC for a LONG time.
I don't know anything about the Midlands IRC - do you have any details Ian?
