EIRC 2017
If I'm not mistaken it's the English Indoor Rowing Championships tomorrow. As we don't seem to have a thread about that it's high time we start one
I know that Dave (Plummy) is going. Any other takers?
Good luck Dave!

Re: EIRC 2017
Guy Blackburn is showing as entered in race 5 @ 10:50 and a new name to me - James Merrey is entered in race 16 @ 13:15 (same race as me). They are both in the age group below me so I'm not sure why the races are split.
Despite wanting to quit 2k racing a couple of years ago as a) I hate the training and b) hate the race pressure (and pain) I feel a bit of an obligation to support the support that has given me so much. If the only people turning up were the potential medal winners (who, let's face it we can usually name before the start) then the sport would die through lack of entrants (I suppose the demise of Grimsby/Evesham/Newark and various smaller events is testament to that) - so I'm happy to be just targeting an SB (<7:25.3 gets me that for the 2k and <1:41.7 for the 500 as I've decided to have a stab at that too (mainly for Nonathlon points)).
I've wobbled about entering several times but I was always going to be there anyway, so I know I would be regretting it a bit if I didn't climb aboard and give it a go.
Somehow I've ended up on erg 10 which I think is at the front, near the centre and near the display screen. That'll put the "crowd" right in my face when I would have been much happier hiding at the back.
My last training session last night (moved from Thursday) was a 4 x 750m r3 which went as follows:
2:44.9 - 1:49.9 - 32spm
2:44.5 - 1:49.6 - 32spm - wanted to quit after this one as I was struggling with breathing
2:44.0 - 1:49.3 - 32spm - was definitely stopping after this one
2:43.3 - 1:49.0 - 32spm
Feeling that somewhat this morning - but resting up today.

That would be very nice - Thanks Peter.
<7:17.6 would be a 4 year SB! (last year I did 7:18.8 at EIRC and the year before it was the 7:17.6)

Re: EIRC 2017
Good luck Plummy!
(I went to take a look at the Norwegian IRC today as I saw Morten H. on the starting list, but I came too late to see him and to early to see the champs like Tufte, Borch (both bronze medalists in Brazil).
Originally I hoped to start as well but due to the pains from before Christmas I considered it unwise and my terrible cold these days tells me it was a good call.)
Good luck to all IRC rowers today!!

Re: EIRC 2017
Smash it Dave! I'm sure you'll enjoy the day all the more (especially after you've rowed). I wish I'd started training a bit sooner, I'd have loved to have gone (as it is I'm working so can't attend to support even).
It's a great venue and a very well run event, and always good to see what's going on, on the scene.
My EIRC t-shirts are getting a bit faded and worn now, I'll need to pitch up sooner or later

Re: EIRC 2017
7:18.3 - you were close Peter. No medals but not last.
2 year seasons best and more than 7s off my best this year (only 0.7s off a 4 year SB).
I'm doing the 500 later trying to beat my SB of 1:41.7 but my legs appear not to be wanting to play along.

Re: EIRC 2017
Good thinking - I'll blame you Peter for the lack of a 4 year SB.
My 500 was, er, interesting - started well, surprisingly (for me) even seeing 1:36's and 1:37's and was hanging onto them until about the 250m mark and then my lungs and legs both went on strike and it got very horrible for the next 100m at which point pretty much everything still functioning at that point just shut down I was subjected to a torrent of lactic (something my body VERY rarely experiences) so the last 150 was a blur of gritted teeth. gurning and considering and early exit from this planet rather than carry on as everything went into a treacly slow motion (mostly my split time).
Final result was 1:37.6 and a 4.1s SB - and in fact a 5 year SB beating anything I've done since the 2010/11 season.
I don't think I left anything on the erg - that was all I had as I had jelly legs and felt a bit awful for quite a while (for reference, my all time PB is 1:35.6 - in the 2010/11 season)

Results are finally online: https://indoorsportservices.co.uk/eirc/results
Guy won a bronze: https://indoorsportservices.co.uk/eirc/ ... 17&event=9
Only 0.2 seconds ahead of #4. That must have hurt!
