Crazy Bear Challenge-Row 30 HMs in 45 days
Some of us nutters are engaged in the frankly mad venture of attempting to row 30 Half Marathons in 45 days.
Start date November 10 and finish December 24.
I did my first yesterday at 6 am in the gym in 1:30:23.4-2:08.5-DF130-r25 and Plummy did his a bit quicker I'll let him pitch in when he is ready.
This had an effect as my metres have not been that high recently and I really struggled this morning again at 6am in a very warm gym-some idiot had left the heaters on overnight !
So I managed to limp home in 1:33:57.3-2:13.6-DF136-r24-HR129
Its mainly reported on Facebook and there is a Google Spreadsheet but I'll leave that to Plummy as it's his strong suit.

30 HMs in 45 days? I would think a real nutter would attempt 45 HMs in 30 days!!strider77 wrote:Some of us nutters are engaged in the frankly mad venture of attempting to row 30 Half Marathons in 45 days.
There is plenty of room to post on the Injuries thread.
(Remember, this is from a (mostly) former rower who destroyed his left arm doing over 200K in 10 days! )

Re: Crazy Bear Challenge-Row 30 HMs in 45 days
Hmmm - I did 47 HMs in just 7 days - so I guess I am a nutter after all.
This is my 4th year of Crazy Bear and I've only managed all 30 once. To be honest I'm not targeting 30 this time (nor did I last time) and there is no rule to say you must. You only need to do as many as you can, whether that be 2, 7, 22 or in fact all of them. The FB page is full of support and tales of just how tough this challenge is but it makes a change from all the "this is how fast I am" challenges.
My first was last night in a reasonably paced 1:29:29.5 at a rock steady 25SPM. As mentioned on the training thread, I'm still suffering from tennis elbow and it flared up during the row last night and after (mostly right but now also on the left side) so I was on the Ibuprofen this morning.
Tomorrow's will be a challenge and doing another on Sunday will be even more so!

This looks like a great challenge! I hope to complete a HM by the end of the month!
Meanwhile, here's hoping for an injury-free month for all those who participate!

Decided to join in on the fun. No plans or targets. Just row an HM on days when the combination of energy and inspiration are sufficient. 2 in the books.
Rowed both of these with monitor covered. Found a rate and a pace that was "comfortable".

Nov 12: 1:24:42.7 - 2:00.4 @ 25spm

Dan - I just spotted that you hadn't added your name to the spreadsheet or your 2 x HMs - so I've taken the liberty for you. If you do more, could you add them (just click on the link at the top of the Crazy Bear FB page and look for you name at the bottom of the list). Type in a "1" for a HM against the date you did it.

I wanna join, too. Already did 2 HM since the 10th. I don't have a FB account (and the given link doesn't seem to work).
Does anyone have the link to the Google spreadsheet?

Above is the link to the Googledoc.
I may need to add a couple of lines to let more people join (a good problem to have)

Re: Crazy Bear Challenge-Row 30 HMs in 45 days
I should stress that it's not 1:29/500 "pace" but 1 hour 29 pace (just under 2:08/500m pace).
At 25spm it just sort of feels "right". It's not easy and after the hour mark every one is a mental battle to get to the end with endless mind games counting strokes and daring not to look at the monitor.
Thankfully, today is a rest day and hopefully tomorrow evening will be #4
Great work there though Alan =D>

Re: Crazy Bear Challenge-Row 30 HMs in 45 days
Nice work everybody! Keep it up. =D>
Plan was to do one yesterday and rest today as I'm in the firehouse for my 24 hour shift but I couldn't get near the rower without feeling an overwhelming sense of dread.
Surprisingly felt good about doing one today so got another crew to cover for us so I could "squeeze" this one in. A fire or major incident would have meant I had to hop off and change quick so took it pretty easy.
#3 - 1:28:41.5 @ 24spm
Still not sure why I'm doing this.

Guenther,
Can you reach the event page on FB? Crazy Bear Challenge 2016
https://www.facebook.com/events/888891664577910/
I couldn't even see the FB page until I "friended" Stuart Thorp and he invited me to join. If you can't reach the event page, you could ask Stuart Thorp to invite you too and see if you can access the Google doc from there.
Good luck!
Peggy

Re: Crazy Bear Challenge-Row 30 HMs in 45 days
Woo hoo go go go Crazy Bears!
Slow start for me visitors Friday solid through Monday morning. Great to have them, but they killed any motivation I had to go turn myself into a sweaty blob for 2 hours.
Checked the spreadsheet (link worked for me) and someone deleted the time I'd entered in the "ever" column. Seems odd, but, that's the nature of shared spreadsheets I guess.
Hopefully I'll muster some courage soon. Need the rowing!

Good to see you here Barbara looking forward to your results
Had a day off and the rest did me good, for No. 5 this morning managed a half decent 1:27:56.3-2:05.0-25 using DF125
Only 9 secs slower than my Season's Best so pleased with that

Re: Crazy Bear Challenge-Row 30 HMs in 45 days
Nice one Alan. You've go to take a day off from these as you really do feel better for it. That said, after Monday off, my 1:28:23 (nearly a minute faster than the previous 3) was pretty torrid and horrible towards the end and left me feeling someone "ill" for a while after.
Barbara - the spreadsheet throws up issues every year. Obviously there are people who are significantly more competent than me and they feel they have the right to "tinker" with it and "improve" it. At the other end of the scale, there are those who have no familiarity with them and just make honest mistakes. I try and keep an eye on it and change stuff where an obvious error has been made.
I have an enforced 3 day lay off through work/travel so my next one isn't likely to be until Saturday now.
