English Indoor Rowing Champs

Post by Recess »

Hey folks,

Having just posted something in the British champs thread, I noticed there was nothing on here about the English at the end of January. (31st - at Manchester Velodrome again)

Anyone planning to attend? I might - which would be my only 2k race of the season - but it depends on how my lingering injuries fair after I train for the Scottish in November.

I really enjoyed last years. It was great to meet Dave and Erik - and even though it was the most painful race of the season, is the one I look most fondly on (well, the UK one - Crash-B will always be top of the list).

I'll be in New Zealand (heading off for five weeks from January 20th), so I won't be able to make the EIRC. Maybe 2017?

Barring unexpected amazing events (winning the lottery, being whisked away by a supermodel etc) I'll certainly be there. As for racing...hmmmm...I did kind of retire from 2k's after this year's event - although the 3rd place made me think I should at least park my patoots on an erg for the sake of the sport next year.

I have another iron in the fire at the moment so I'll decide about "racing" nearer the time but I'll certainly be there.

Similar with me, all i found was the date on the C2 website:

http://www.concept2.co.uk/indoor-rowers/racing/calendar

So there is always a chance that the date is wrong.

Yes, really enjoyed meeting you and Dave last year, too, John :!:

With Danish IRC being the day before, on the 30th, I very much doubt I will attend in 2016, sorry...

Considering attending now. Will have a couple of 'toe in the water' attempts at the 2k to see how I'd fair. Still irks me that I came 2nd this year, and after yesterday, and chatting with Guy, the embers have been lit. It would mean driving down in the morning, turning up for the race, and then driving straight back - but if the fire burns, and there's a few Free Spirits there, it might be fun.

Of course, I'd have to get Christmas over and done with quickly to keep <75kg!

Update: Hotel booked and entry in the post. Just entered the 40+ Lwt 2k. I'd considers the 500m - but I know I'm destroyed after a 2k so it would be a waste of money.

Hats off to Guy who does both it seems!!

Me again...

I was just having a look at the poster for the EIRCs (as I was writing about it on my blog) and noticed there's someone in a Free Spirits top - good to have a presence on there. Who is it?

Yay! Looking forward to meeting up again. Julie's accompanying me this time - though try as I might, I couldn't convince her to enter.

Have you shown her the finishing times for last year (or it that what put her off?)

She'd certainly medal, maybe even win - but even dangling that in front of her isn't enough. I think she'll regret it when she's there, and will hopefully partake next time.

I'll have one last try tonight...

Bah ! I was planning on doing the English but I was informed on Sunday that its my nephews blessing on that day and my attendance at that is "strongly encouraged"

I'll just have to see if I can fit in a 2k or a 500 that morning at home

Good luck to Free Spirits in attendance - I'll be watching for results

The timetable has been released for Sunday's race. 13:25 is a bit of late start for us lightweights!!

I like that DAVID PLUMB is in capitals though - makes you stand out Plummy!
