CRASH-B 2015 Date announced!

Post by Recess »

Just by chance, I had a search, and the date for the 2015 regatta is now online:

Sunday, March 1st 2015.

http://www.crash-b.org/web/2015-regatta ... formation/

I turn 40 in February, so fancy going to Boston for it as a celebration. I guess I'd still be racing in the 30-39 category though?

I'm sure it's based on your age on the day of the race, so you would be in the 40-49 category. I reckon you should go for it. With your times, you'd be quite competitive.

Yup. Your birthday is perfect for the crash-b's, John, you'd be in the 40-49 category. They're probably almost as fast as the 30 somethings though so start training for it now, you've got real speed so I think you'd do well.

Cool, maybe this time I'll come down and watch and say hi :) Had been thinking about it earlier this year to check it out and watch Greg row, but never did go down. But I did hook up a friend at work with one of the discounted erg's at the end of the event, so he was happy.

Just did the 40 thing myself a couple of weeks ago, but haven't had a chance to touch the rower since. It'll be interesting to see where I can get my performance percentages up to in the new bracket as summer rolls off and I start to get time to train again.

It's certainly something I'm planning to do, but need to sort logistics. Can't really drag the kids over because of school, which means I'd have to make the trip on my own.

I've done that kind of thing before, went to Canada for the weekend once, but that was to visit family, and it might be odd to fly out, stay in a hotel and mooch about Boston on my own for the weekend.

Will update when I work out what to do.

Right. So I'm definitely doing this. Plan to fly out on Friday, fly home on Monday. Thank God for Airmiles!

Will probably stay at the Loews Hotel as I stayed there years ago and it was the comfiest bed I've ever slept in, and is relatively central for wandering around Boston. Unless people have a better suggestion of somewhere to stay?

If anyone else is competing, I'll see you in the hotel bar on the Sunday night!

Sounds great John. I'll be there in (Free) spirit if not in person!

If you are travelling from the UK you kind of by default become part of team GB and they will arrange a meal or two out for everyone travelling from this side of the pond. I can assure you, you won't be on your own. I don't think they've decided on a team "Manager" as yet but I'll try and keep you posted.

I like the sound of that! Need to buy some more FS team kit though!

I see Christmas presents being themed this year...

In previous years John there has even been Team GB kit.
Shouldn't stop you from getting the FS gear as well though :-)

The official FS kit looks very good, and you should wear it at CRASH-Bs. However, the unofficial FS gear is also fine. :D

These collector's original series shirts are no longer available. :(

I count myself lucky to own one of these rare team outfits :fswink: :D

John, the foto above was taken at the Marlowe hotel (www.hotelmarlowe.com) and I can recommend it. They are having a wine hour every evening (the foto was taken during or right after that as you can see :D ), but more than that the rooms are spacy and comfortable, staff is very friendly and helpul and they have special Crash-B's room rates. Competitor's registration and welcome lunch is at the Royal Sonesta which is right across the street. Also Team GB usually stays at the Sonesta. So you could also choose the Sonesta but I don't know what their rooms are like.

Great photo, Peter. I don't remember seeing it before. I know that's you and plummy on either side of the back row, but I'm not sure I recognise anyone else. Is that Philip Price in the middle of the back row and is that David McOnie?

Please put names to faces.

Front Row L-R:
Dave McOnie, Ann Seidman, Gaye McOnie, Odd Geir Aarrestad

Their's a couple missing as Emily Sarat and Christine Wojcik travelled there too (although Emily was hardly a commuter, living in Boston anyway)

Thanks plummy

I should have recognised some of the other faces. I'd love to do the Crash-Bs sometime, but only if I could tie it in with a bit of a holiday.

Wow, they hide the registration on the Crash-B website a bit! If you click on the Registration page, you end up in a loop - but down at the bottom, there's a proper link to the Ronin site:

http://www.roninregistration.com/info.a ... e=Register

And needless to say - I registered (for the Lwt 40-49).

I still have to maintain focus etc for the BRIC's - but this is the one I can't wait for!
