Queensland IRC 2014

Post by Pepe »

Hazel and I are on our way home (a 1900k journey) from Bokarina on Queensland's Sunshine Coast where the 2 days of racing were held.

I'm very pleased to report that my first races as an "octorower" have been golden ones and I am also the new holder of three Australian records in the 500, 1000 and 2000m. in the 80-84L category. Times were as follows:

500m. 1:49.0
1000m. 3:54.9
2000m. 8:19.2

300m. 1:01.2 (gold)

To cap it all, I was awarded a fine plaque on a small stand as rower of the championships. There's more: we won several raffle prizes :!:

Please excuse the trumpet blowing, but times like this don't come round all that frequently :!:

Those times would put many a much younger rower to shame ^O^ As an 80+ LWT rower putting in that collection in such a short timespan (after such a journey) is nothing short of amazing.

Thank you all for your kind comments.
I'm making the most of the early period in my new age group and will be competing at the biannual Pan Pacific Masters Games on Queensland's Gold coast in November. Maybe some Aussie Free Spirits will be there?

For better or for worse I have entered the Pan Pacs, so you should see at least one other free spirit there. I have never been in a race before and have only just got back into rowing after 6 months off and only had about a year of rowing before that. I don't expect anything brilliant but i will know what to expect next time. I ticked all 4 events as it didn't cost any more but I guess I could just choose 1 on each day. I figure I can give it a go as it is only an hour or so from my place.

Not sure what I was thinking - Perhaps a little concerned at that moment of craziness :?

Lesley it's great that you entered. Whether you're ready or not, going to races is such a good idea! as long as it doesn't cause you to overdo in the heat of it all... looks like you are planning wisely, tho. For me, simply thinking about certain races is nerve-wracking... don't know why, so I have entered a few this year just to learn to be excited about them, despite the obvious pain part... lol.

Fun to have an event to prep for. Looking forward to hearing what the Pan Pac games are like, hope you will both share!
