Elite otw rowers erg times

Post by Grobi »

Hi everybody,

just in case anyone is interested how fast elite otw rowers are on the erg, I found an article about the German otw squad. The coach let them do a 2k erg test last Saturday (followed by a 6k race otw on Sunday  ) to find out who should row in the German eight this season. They don't state all erg results but

1 guy came in at 5:57.0
1 guy came in at 5:55.0
1 guy came in at 5:50.2
4 guys came in sub 5:50

The kiwi pair on Facebook and Twitter have some amazing scores on the erg as well as a nice haul of OTW medals. 1:36.6 average for a half marathon  and a 4x2k interval session with 2 min rest where the slowet 2k was 6:06.0  . And I was happy with my December CTC (slowest interval of 3x2k with 3 min rest) of 6:47

You probably think of Bond and Murray...? Cyborgs in action? And yes with your 6:47.x you are in the suspicious-for-not-from this planet category as well!

Thanks Boris, but they are in a totally different league to me. I would say there are a group of elite erg rowers that can post times sub 6:10 and then you have another group of the top OTW rowers going well under 6 mins.

I think that to get into the first group you either need a natural gift and reasonable level of traing or less gift and very high level of training. To get into the top group I think you would need both natural gift and high level of training.

Wow Boris, that Bond and Murray video was impressive. Bond has a lot of layback, made me wonder about my technique. That Synek screenshot too--3 back-to-back 2ks averaging just over 6 minutes--fantastic!

His final 2km was actually under 6 minutes.

I think this Murray video is dated previous to the one Boris posted above -- but it's still fun to watch. Has heartrate info (max: 201, over 190 for 50 mins) and some fun quotes like "They're not fun, those machines, not even for a minute."
