Great video, Barbara. Thanks for posting it. I particularly liked the moment when the guy in the red t-shirt who was rowing next to him punched the air in triumph when he saw that Paul had made the qualifying time.

You're right, that's quite emotional when the guy next to him punches the air. It's a fly in my eye... honest.

Re: CRASH-B 2014
I raced the CRASH-Bs and managed a 6:37.6. On one hand, it's a season's best and my second fastest ever, but I have to admit I was hoping for a PB. I still need to find a couple more tenths off the split for that.
Most painful race ever. I went out hard and really lost it with about 600m to go. I got myseld reassembled over the next 100 meters or so, but the damage was done. I lost too much time.

Re: CRASH-B 2014
Greg - if that was your first time at CRASH-B's and even if not -- CONGRATULATIONS and well done. I haven't been to Boston, but by all accounts, it's got to be an adrenaline rush to be among that many ergs . And such cool people, hope you got to meet a bunch (I recognize the Craftsbury folks in the races around you, having been there a couple times).
I didn't catch your race live online, but your replay is up if you haven't seen it:

Painful, yes, but a great result. Way to race!

Brilliant row Greg, you came 6th out of 28 and were only beaten by people masquerading as telegraph poles with physiques of Olympic weightlifters =D>

Re: CRASH-B 2014
Congratulations, Greg! You suffered all the pain and got a very fast time and SB.
That third split was your fastest, so I suppose you hit that wall a bit later than 600m from the finish?

Great race, Greg. Looks like a mild fly and die but really, getting that close to your pb at over 50 years old is amazing.
54 years old probably around 77kg.

Re: CRASH-B 2014
The wrap up on Paul Randall's race. Appears to have come in ~10 seconds faster than his qualifier. Love it. However it's a bit distressing to know that even 50 years from now I would still be having crazy nerves before a 2k erg!

“I’m tickled pink about this,” Randall said as he sat behind a table in the arena concourse greeting people and signing autographs on large postcards that read, “Be Like Paul” that were made especially for the occasion.
“This is a real victory,” he said. “I had my son cheering me on. He’s my son, my whole staff and my inspiration. Before the race I was nervous and scared and worried and half mad. But that doesn’t count. The last minute is what counts.”

Greg can only echo Kirbys comments - a fantastic time which a lot of people would be very happy to have ( me included in my dreams ) I`m sure with a slightly better paced race you would have got closer but keep at your training you are not that far off!!

Nice race, Greg. I wish I had checked this site earlier. I would have introduced myself. I was on the other side of the "big kids" on erg #12. I raced the opposite way. I did my first 1,600 at a comfortable pace and sprinted home. I pulled my PR (6:40.2), but feel like I might have left a little gas in the tank by cranking it up a bit later than I could have. Overall, I am happy with the result and with the payoff on the training I put in. Wishing you a PR in your next race. Best regards. - Chris

Re: CRASH-B 2014
Congratulations, Greg! I wish I had checked into this forum before Crash-B's. I would have introduced myself. I was over on the other side of the row for Event 7 on Erg #12. I rowed a conservative race for the first 1,600 before sprinting home. It was a better version of a race I rowed three weeks earlier by 3.5 seconds and a 6.5 second improvement on last year.'s Crash B effort. Not as fast as your time, but a good payoff for my training. Best wishes for a PR in your next race. Best regards. - Chris

Welcome to the forum Terra firma (that cant be your real name!). Sorry about the slight delay while you waited for approval - we get a lot of spam so initial posts have to be screened. I think you should be ok from now on.

Hi Chris! I wish we could have met. I had a pretty miserable race. Here is my pace graph: http://www.concept2.com/indoor-rowers/r ... y/Smith/11Terra Firma wrote:Nice race, Greg. Sounds like yours was a lot more controlled and frankly a better job of it. Are you from the massachusetts area, or did you travel in for the competition?

Thanks for the warm welcome, Stan and Rodger. It looks like the time delay caused me to post the same congratulations to Greg twice. I wrote it better the second time!
