Spring is making its way slowly to Alberta. My favourite season. Break out the shorts, no more snow, not hot like the summer and very few bugs. And the training, like the season, is finally shaping up.
Still doing the same routine for now 5x5'/10x1'/30' with light weights on the in between days and a day off Saturday. Seems to be a regimen I can keep up without feeling burnt out--so far. [-o<
Tuesday: 5x5'/4' rest.
1:48.2-r28
1:48.1-r29
1:48.0-r29
1:48.1-r30
1:47.7-r31. Avg. 1:48.0-r29
No way I thought I could get through that last one but I decided to rate up quick hands and boom! Got it done. :D
Thursday: 10x1'/1'rest
1:41.0-r32/41.0-33/40.6-33/41.0-33/41.0-33/41.0-33/41.0-33/41.0-34/41.0-34/41.0-34/40.6-34
Avg. 1:40.9-r33
And the half hour. Back in the 8k club for the first time at 50 years old. 8)
No real drama here, slow start and just gradually got the average under 1:52.5 with consistent 6' splits of :
1599m-1:52.5-r27
1602m-1:52.3-r27
1602m-1:52.3-r27
1603m-1:52.2-r28
1606m-1:52.0-r28
8012m-1:52.3-r27. Damn. I'll take a week like this any time.
54 years old probably around 77kg.

What Zoot said - very nice Kirby. I won't be chasing those targets as a 50 year old!

Hi Kirby, spring is also my favourite season, for the same reasons. But for me that usually means that my erging is going to be reduced in favour of otw rowing, mountainbiking, maybe occasional running. The winter on the erg has been long and dark, so it's time to get outside the house :D

A belated "well done" on your recent training from a '67 model by the way :fswink:

Thanks, Peter. Getting outside sounds like a great idea.
I decided to give myself an "easy" week this past week...burnout aversion plan enacted. Still two interval sessions, similar speed and intensity but only 60% of the reps. So...
Tues. 3x5'/4' rest
1:47.8-r29
1:47.6-r30
1:47.6-r30 avg 1:47.6 r29
These were still hard but only three of them, not so bad.
Thurs. 6x1'/1' rest
1:41.0-33/40.6-33/40.6-32/40.3-33/40.6-33/40.3-33 avg.1:40.6-r32
Today I was going to another 30' over 8k but I tweaked my trick knee climbing into bed  and I think it made me overly cautious although erging only hurt a little bit. Maybe I should bite the bullet and get the surgery but I'm just not sure.

I didn't post last week. I think I'm entering one of those can't find the motivation periods but I'll try to put something up here once in a while. The week I didn't post was a bit of a wreck but I did manage another 10x1'/1' rest at 1:40.6 overall. This past week was a little more organised. Tues. Slight departure, 6x4'/3:15 rest. 3:18 would actually be the proper rest but the monitor only allowed 3:15 or 3:20. I failed in the sixth one, hard to say whether it was a lack of guts or just reaching my current limits but I think the training effect was still vaild:
6x4'/3:15 rest
1:47.5/r29
1:47.4/r30
1:47.4/r31
1:47.4/r31
1:47.5/r31
2:19.2/r24 blew up just 1:30 in
Thursday's 10x1'/1' rest averaged 1:40.5/r33. Getting to my limits here but I'd like to push these below 1:40 before moving on.
Today, a fast half done steadily. I stayed within myself on this one but it was not easy, never easy. 8031m/1:52.0/r27.
Considering I had one of my migraines yesterday evening I'm kinda proud of breaking 8k today.
