Thanks Zoot & Al,
Trying to do a bike day followed by a erg day, it seems to be working for the bike but the erg sessions seem so hard to progress.
Yesterday bike turbo session 20min in aero position 8) with 10 mins WU & CD on the tops I was pleased with this session as the HR was much lower for a faster pace (still hard though).

http://connect.garmin.com/activity/330721702

Today erg session a solstice HM, overheating big time thus very very sweaty.

Thanks Alan & Huw.
Just an update re last Thursdays open 10 mile TT (Club champs) on a very wet and windy evening, equalled my come back PB of 29:05 (only 6 mins to shave off now) set on the same course, so I'm happy as the conditions were atrocious with loads of non starters.

Pleased as was climbing well today - also pleased as the middle 38 miles was at average 20 mph (after the hills but before the built up areas and traffic).

Yes, I was there on the 30 minutes. Still alive ;-) I'm also still cycling once a week. I've got my average speed up to 15 mph (24+kph) over two hours. I think with proper shoes and pedals and a better bike I might not embarrass myself too much if seen on the road.

Out at 7pm for a longer ride - finishing after dark - Sunset over Minehead
Image

50 miles - up a few cat 3 and 4s - quite bizarre just pushing up the hill not really knowing where you are related to the top, just trying to keep the cadence up

TE 3.7 - pushed the hills but cruised the rest
Great helmet light - exposure diablo - amazing led power illuminating the lane descents.

Sounds great. One of favorite rows started around sunset and finished well after dark. It was almost surreal. I couldn't call it peaceful, because I was working pretty hard, but I felt extremely focused because I was not distracted by all the sights around me.

Hi Chaps,

Just dropped by to tell you about my weekend cycling trip from Leamington Spa to Bruges. Sadly Strave wasn't man enough to capture the evidence so no map (must buy a garmin).

Three 40 plus chaps (old enough to know better) packed the smallest possible post backs and set off from Leamington Spa at 06:30 and set off in the direction of Harwich. After 10 hours of riding and 154 miles later we arrived at the ferry port aroung 9pm in need of a beer and a curry both of which were on offer on board.

By 9am the following morning we were off again for a fantastic days riding about 100 miles down the Dutch coast and in to Belgium. Late in the afternoon we arrived in the central square of Bruges and wallowed in self congratulation at the fact that day one had been fractionally longer in distance than the longest stage of this years TdF (although admittedly that finnished a tthe top of Ventoux). Collectively, however, we did all agree that we never needed to ride this far in a single day again! I'll leave you to figure out the reason...

All in all a fantastic experience... on to the Wiggle Tempest Sportive this weekend...

Best wishes all,
JonathanA | more pedalling than pulling at the moment

FBA heart trace was ok throughout.

Sorry to drag up an old post but am I reading the resting bpm right?

I know some of you guys must be in the top 10% of the population for fitness, given the use of ergs and subsequent cardio-vascular training, but I didn't realise it was even remotely possible to get resting heart beat down below 50, possibly even below 40?

I was aiming for 60-ish (no where near yet) but wasn't aware it was even possible to get much lower. So with that in mind, are the kind of ranges of bpm that can be considered a really strong healthy fit bpm? (Does it even translate that way?)
