LOTTO 10 Challenge

Post by PSims »

A new challenge with a difference.

This is a total of 10k (or thereabouts - which will become apparent in a moment).

I have devised 49 different methods of rowing for 10k - intervals, Low SPMs, high SPMs, limited DFs, penalties, bonuses, combinations etc etc.

Post a reply to this topic with your chosen number between 1 and 49.
I will then "look-up" my (saved and locked) spreadsheet and let you know what you have to do. And I promise I won't cheat!

You may also gamble and submit a Bonus ball between 1 and 20.
I will look up an adjustment to the total distance - you may be lucky and get a reduction in total metres you have to row...or not! So do you feel lucky.

So in summary, post a single number between 1-49 and optionally a bonus number between 1-20. I will reply with the exact details of your challenge.

One person per ball 1-49 - if the number you have picked is already allocated to someone, I'll ask you to choose again. Bonus balls can be reused.

Note: Once you have your number you can repeat your challenge to get a better time as many times as you like, but you CANNOT choose another lotto ball! Your first choice you are stuck with.

Good luck everyone - and could someone randomly choose a number and bonus ball for me please?

Make sense (doubt it)! You like? You hate?

( Must seek psychiatric help  )

ok Paul
I am currently watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer   and I have lost the will to live. I will take number 17 please, with bonus number 10. You can have number 13 with bonus number 3. I will now await with trepidation your response.

I'll take 37 with a bonus of 9. Am I going to regret this?

5 and 5 please.

Funny how we all think the bonus ball is worth the risk.

Whilst I am certain you won't cheat, can you send me the spreadsheet so I can see what I missed out on?

Your challenges

Post by PSims »

Jonathan: (37/9)

1 x 10k freestyle, with a time penalty of 10 seconds added to your result
Bonus 9 = adjustment of +900 metres added to the end.

So the challenge is 10,900m, record the time taken + 10 seconds.

(A straight forward one, but a somewhat unlucky starter! Sorry!)

Thomas (5/5)

5k, 2k, 1,500m, 1k, 500m with 1 min rests
Bonus -1000m

So that becomes:

5k, 2k, 1,500m, 500m with 1 min rests

You jammy s*d !

Stan & Paul

Post by PSims »

Stan:

17/10

5k, 2k, 1,500m, 1k, 500m with 30 sec rests
Bonus + 300m

So challenge is:

5k, 2k, 1,500m, 1k, 800m with 30 sec rests

Paul (13/3)

2k, 500m repeat 4 times, rests 1 min
Bonus - 300m

Which becomes:

2k, 500m repeat 3 times, then 2k,1 x 200m, rests 1 min

Horrible - thanks mate!!

I think you read the wrong line. Much as I would love that pyramid and the chance of finally winning an ELM challenge, I think I actually have to row 9,000m straight? Please confirm.

Thomas,

Yes - you are right - that's the 2nd mistake I've made today.
Already apologised to Stan for missing his post by rushing through with the mouse trackwheel too quick!!!

Pressures of rushing when having a rampaging 2 year old climbing everywhere!!! He's gone to bed now so I shall review it all and check!

Your challenge is:

1 x 10k straight
- 1,000m bonus

Equals:

1 x 9k straight

...which is STILL jammy!!!!

ALL - I will send you the spreadsheet when you have picked a ball - but DON'T forward it to those who haven't picked yet!!

The problem now is everyone is going to ask for that bonus ball (mind you there may be a better one ;) ) Should I delete all the posts on that and you say you will PM the challenges to people?

Balls to the bonus

Post by PSims »

Good point - I'll ask people to pick a different bonus ball to previous entries as well. If we run out, I'll create 20 more.

Fix !!!!!!

Post by PSims »

Derrylad has picked 27/4. I don't believe it....

10 x 1k with 1 min rests
Bonus -800m

So that is

9 x 1k with 1 min rests then a 200m to finish

Your challenge

Post by PSims »

Webberg (49/9)

1k, 2k, 3k, 4k with rests 30 sec, done in any order you fancy
Bonus = +900m

So the challenge is as above, adding 900m to the one you choose to row LAST. e.g. You could do 3k, 1k, 2k, 4.9k or 4k, 3k, 2k, 1.9k etc etc all with 30 sec rests.

ALL: Just to clarify YOU DO NOT RECORD THE REST TIMES IN YOUR FINAL TIME ON THE ELM SITE. Just the rowed times (and penalties if appropriate - Jonathan!)

Tom Begley's challenge

Post by PSims »

Jonathan - sorry - and I don't think this one will help you either....
There are worse ones in there - they just haven't surfaced yet

Tom Begley:

OK...46/17....(from his email to me)

Challenge is....

Row a single 5k - take the time - double it and post the result.

Bonus is minus 600m.

So the challenge with bonus is:

Row 4,700m - take the time - double it and post the result.

Good one!

Good luck!

Thomas - you are right EVERYONE has gone for the bonus ball!

Mikkel,

If you read this - I noticed you have posted a result for Lotto 10.
Interesting as you haven't picked a ball yet!

This is NOT a straight 10k challenge - please could I ask that you remove your result and read the instructions at the top of this thread.

I will also email this to you.

Lotto 7 and 7 is looking pretty good for you:

Main Ball 7 is: 3 x 3k, 1k to finish, rests 30 secs in between each row.
Bonus 7 is: plus 500m

So the final challenge becomes:

3 x 3k, 1,500m to finish, rests 30 secs

LOTTO 10/Tom Begley's Challenge

Post by TomB »

Just blew away my PB for 5000m in completing my Lotto 10 challenge. I was fortunate to draw a row of 4,700m - take the time - double it and post the result. My bonus ball selection reduced the distance from 5000m to 4700m. My previous 5000m PB was 19.32.2 and I just finished in 19.00.0. I was very comfortable holding 1.54 splits until 1k to go and from then on it really hurt.

However, my challenge result was as follows:
4700m 17.53.5 /SR 30/Split 1.54.2. Double the time and therefore my result is 35.47.0
Last 300m 1.06.6/1.51/SR32 (Guess PM3 rounded down to 19.00.0)

I took the last 9000m of my 10km this morning for the lotto challenge. And recorded 35:19.8s for my (10km-1km bonus ball in one row) 9,000m.

I Seem to be in second place though. I think that Chang Chi's time of 0.1 seconds for 10,000m is going to be tough to beat.

ChangChi - fast but not that fast!

Post by PSims »

Yes...ChangChi couldn't delete his mistaken entry - he thought it was a straight 10k! I've asked him to pick lotto balls, but he hasn't replied yet!

I could delete the challenge and recreate it?
