250km challenge

Post by Thomas W-P »

I thought I would post my slow progress to this huge target - interested to know how others are doing. I am guessing that Nigel is already there. If I complete 250km I will have my 2 million metres in the bag, so it is quite a nice little challenge for me.

Under Summary stats > monthly view all, I have a massive 32,630m. Aiming for at least 10km tonight at a gentle 130HR fat burn.

I'm getting there

Post by PSims »

Hey Thomas,

Thanks for sorting out my access - I'm here now!

I did 31k yesterday, 30k today, so I'm on my way!
8 days left to do it!

Nigel is resting - he has injured himself - so he won't be clocking metres for a while. Injured his abs again - overdoing it.

Hi Paul
Did you do the 30ks in one row or 2 separate ones. How did it feel?

Currently on 54513 for the 250k challenge

250km

Post by ChrisB »

Hi Guys... Steadily increasing my meters month on month. Approx 267,000 last month so I thought a 250,000 row would be a good idea!

Currently, three rows this month, 32,574 (2hrs, 4mins, 26.8s).

Similarly, going for approx 10km each day minimum...

Alittle difficult having done a challenge or two before hand though! :D

Enjoy!

Hi Chaps...I do like the idea of the 250k, good one Chris
In May I managed 349,739 - the most I'd ever done & last month was 255,000 so you all have a challenge!!!
Just 3 sessions so far this month, almost 40,000...early days yet BEWARE :D :D

30k

Post by PSims »

I have been trying to do 20k in the mornings and 10k at lunchtimes.
Sometimes I use "Just Row" - cos you can get off and have a rest, get a drink and the clock stops, hence the odd/ragged distances.

Today I couldn't get out for lunch, so just the 20k.

Should end the week on about 130-140k - slightly ahead.

Then, do it all again next week.

Inspirational Paul - bad enough doing 250k in 1 month is hard enough but doing it in 2 weeks is quite an achievement. I am currently on 69kfor the month so got a lot to do but more or less on schedule.

Have I missed WHY Paul is going for it in this manner? It is impressive to do in a month - why do it so fast - are you racing?

I am up to 73,431m in 5:27:24.8 which is astronomical for me. Just doing it and posting on ELM will be enough for me.

Ahhhh - that makes sense. Well from an "I understand what he is trying to achieve" point of view.

Makes no sense from a "Oh my God, I could not do that!" point of view. He's a legend. He will deserve the holiday!

250K piece of wee wee (NOT)

Post by steve the slug »

the slug aint enjoying :( this too much but nearly back on track :) went to gym last nite and this morning doing bits on roller coaster

i know exactly how those kenyan long distance runners felt now, when anybody starts the roller coaster try doing the downhill (sprint) in under the 2m/500, the 15k then 1500 felt like 30 odd laps at 70 secs then a 4 lap burst at under 60 (killed me). :x

but now done part 3, last 4 bits all been achieved at under 2/500 barrier so must be getting fit.

I don't like the look of that challenge and am avoiding it.

Anyway on the 250km one I am 122,059m - nearly half way there, nearly half way through the month. Could be close.

Post by PSims »

Just 14,850m to go to finish the 250km.
Tricia Blank has already done it!!!

Posted Cheops and 10k Low SPM today as well.

So if I can get rid of Ferris Wheel and Imperial and Metric Mile, I feel I will have earned my holiday.

Play with the rollercoaster in August!

Hey Slug - I didn't know you don't like long rows!

Done

Post by PSims »

Well, it's done. 250km down in 9 (rowing) days.
Do I feel better for that....no...but I feel I have achieved something.

17 hours 43 minutes not forgetting the 16.5 seconds of rowing!
Average split of 2:07.6 - some days were a struggle.

Tips for others on their way:

- use the Just Row option - the clock stops when you have a break and the metres count upwards, which is psychologically good as you get tired
- best times will be won by those doing it as middle distances. Sessions of 20-40 mins will probably give the best times
- mix it up with some other challenges, to stop you getting fed up
- think of Mr Bollen's neck wrapped around the chain whilst you are pulling it!

Thanks for the challenge Chris - certainly taken me to new levels.
I now have 2 weeks to think of suitable revenge.

Well done Paul. You can go and enjoy your holiday now while the rest of us struggle to close at least some of the gap on you.
I am now at 132666 for the month with an average split 2:06 so I am at least on target to finish the challenge.

2:05! I am just aiming to finish - that will be an achievement after my pre-Free Spirits target for the YEAR was 700,000.

I am at 138,433m at 2:11.8.

Once you start

Post by PSims »

Trouble is, I've got a taste for it now.

Couldn't help myself and did another 41k today.

I'm gonna get you Derrylad, even if I end up at 8 stone!!!

Today should be a rest day....cycled into work and plan to cycle home....too hot on the trains! But I'm only 4196 to the 250k so it has to be done! I think my average will be around 2:11 which is disappointing, but as the Le Mans was around 2:15, I guess its not too bad. Will just have to wait for that man Sims to set some more long challenges when we start again?

My neck...

Post by ChrisB »

Hi Paul, quoting you before... my neck... no, my back! :D

... My back is beginning to cease up... Approx 30km for me to do before I hit the magical 250km, back to the gym tonight, so by Friday should have completed!

Only ever once exceeded 250km myself, so think its been a good challenge personally and encouraged a number of of the team to do more...

Well done

Post by PSims »

Hey Chris!

Well done - almost there.
You will have a few days left to pick your "worst" times in the 250k and redo them for a better overall time!
Infectious this rowing lark eh?
Once I'd done the 250k, just couldn't stop.
I never ran out of energy - always out of time!
I need to retire - to have more time on my hands!!

What do you reckon to "Bollen's Billions" as the name of the next challenge? 500k in a month?
Or the Slug's Six Hundred? 600k in a month.....
