Thank you Mr Webber I remember the boy Shearer scoring three. Just before he stamped all over a Leicester player. But you can do what you want when you're England captain.

Anywho I've scooped top prize so if we ever get round to the London drink, the first round is on me

Gooner, I think that Shearer was a comparative angel! He definitely used his status to get away with some horrible fouls, but he's not alone.

Remember the Pires "penalty" against Portsmouth when the Arse were on thier unbeaten run. Outrageous dive that Arsy Whinger didn't see.

Drogba - is there a bigger diver on the pitch today?

Mancs - I suspect Ronny is fouled about 1 in 4 times he's goes to ground. Cissy.

Liverpool - Gerrard is a great player but not averse to the odd high lunge

Be very interesting to see if the foreign "stars" stay in the UK when the 50% tax rate hits next year. I think we'll see a lot of the minor players go and then an increase in the clubs wages bills as they try to keep the few that are better than home grown players.

Know he was a great player for us,the best striker i have seen with a Blackburn shirt on.It is a pity he decided to go to Newcastle.IMHO i ithink he was never the same player when he left.Like 1 or 2 others.Damian Duff and David Bently.
I think Big Sam is making a big mistake selling young Matt Derbyshire. :(

I watched Shearer playing for us and against us. I have to say that judgement gets coloured by who you are supporting!

We did some good business with Blackburn over Shearer. Apart from the cash (a record at the time?) we got Beattie and a winger whose name I've forgotten but he played for England (Ripley?).

Both did well for us.

I seem to recall that we also acquired Kevin Davies for next to nothing, sold him to Blackburn and bought him back when he was injured an then sold him again. Pity our financial managers didn't show as much expertise!

Stuart Ripley.we should have kept him,he was very quick.
James Beattie. We could still use him know,i think he was born in Blackburn. And Kevin Davies, blackburn lad.
That brings back the memories of when we won the Premier League.Distant memories.
A long way off ever achieving that again i am affraid. :( Top 10 with Big Sam next season i hope. [-o<

One of my work colleagues used to be a trainee at Blackburn and a contemporary of Beattie. he says that he's a nice enough bloke but very focused on his career. He also had a habit of falling out with the coaches!

Ripley was rubbish for us. He was injured most of the time and disinterested the rest. Waste of time.

Beattie was better but it took him 3/4 seasons to get into the first team.

We used Beattie as a target man with a couple of quicker forwards around him. Worked pretty well for a couple of seasons before the rot set in.

The league has started up again so I have just registered my team for the new season.
http://fantasy.premierleague.com
I have set up the Free Spirits Rowing league again. To join the team you will need this code 690491-147718
So sign up, this is an opportunity to prove you are much better than the muppet in charge of your own favourite team - not too difficult if you are a Blackburn fan for example

Do you have to register with all the usual preamble before you can see anything FS related. Spent a while signing in and spent £101M, picked a wrong player, couldn't unpick him and lost the will to live - still didn't see anything to do with the FS league

Hints and tips anyone

Mr P, you need to select your team and then you can join the FS league with the code that Stan supplied.

Just log in and go for an "auto select" team and then tinker - much quicker

I'm finally in! Spent about £200M then had to take out all the players I really wanted and put a bunch "never heard ofs" and fresh out of the "work permit" crew.

Should sink like a Newcastle (er, I mean stone)

Incidentally I have invited a work colleague, Graham Beggin to join our league. Cant persuade him to take up rowing (or in deed any form of exercise), but he is a keen Liverpool fan and hammered me in this game last year so I am looking for revenge.

So the new season is off and running, fantastic :!:

Highlights so far....
A great performance from the gooners, a lucky winner from Drogba but they all count, Rafa having a go at the officials - nothing new there and the Top Stat. is that I'm in the top third of the worldwide fantasy league...468,415th

The FS league was having a fit when I last looked but it may be up again now.

Ignoring the slings and arrows of Mr Webber I'd just thought I'd inform you I've joined the league. It took me ages to work out what to do so I'm a week behind in terms of points. So I've given you a head start. Let battle commence.

Come on you rip roaring Reds.

Hope nobody has Eduardo (or as he's now knows Ed -dive -oh!). Looks like his reputation might preceed him now and he will pick up fewer fouls and more bookings.

I have to say that it's pretty unfair on the boy. He has done what many do, week in and week out but this time he's been made a scapegoat. I'm not sure if the ref in that game also got a slap and a ban but he should have. The dive was just so blatant and the ref fell for it.

I'd like to see each team have the ability to refer one ref's decision a match to a video ref. It happens in all sorts of other games and with TV being at just about all professional games now, surely the incremental cost would be miniscule compared to the millions in the game?

Well I'm enjoying my no doubt very brief position of looking down on the rest of you. :D

I only wish my real team were not in the position of looking up at the rest of the league! :(
