Lemons float. What about limes?

Post by Thomas W-P »

Come on. Someone MUST have a lime. I need to know.

After careful experimentation, I can confirm that lemons float really well. I would hold on to a box of lemons should I get shipwrecked.

But I don't have a lime!

Confused? See: http://www.freespiritsrowing.com/forum/ ... =9830#9830

Sorry -- no limes in my pantry. Plenty of lemons, though. Nothing is better than a lemon wedge floating in a glass of fine, imported hefe weizen.

Oh I like your beer taste. There are actually a couple of good Hefe in the US -like the "Goose Island" Microbrew in Chicago, and a couple others. I like the Lemon in Hefe as well - then you get your Vitamin C on top of all B vitamins in the Hefe - and since it's starch, it's basically Vitamin enhanced liquid bread = healthy! :D

Right game on!
Reet is off to the shops tomorrow to get me 1 large lemon and 1 large lime.
Now I am fully prepared to drink as much Barcardi as I have to to complete this very technical experiment. I see it as my civic duty to my fellow Free Spiriters to see this through to the end.......... :D

Jain:

You are going to have to keep a laboratory log. Different sollutions of Bacardi and Coke.....variable ratios of liquor to soda......different sizes of lime and lemons.......

This may work out to a couple of hunder variations......good luck good man

OK, you need to do the following experiments. Good luck.

1) Whole lemon in B & C
2) Whole lime in B & C
3) Slice of lemon in B & C
4) Slice of lime in B & C

Now, through extensive web searching I reckon it is the pith of the lemon that keeps it floating (full of air), so...

5) Flesh of lemon in B & C (should sink)
6) Flesh of lime in B & C

And the theory is that a blob of water in the shape of a lime should be lighter than the said lime. And a blob of water in the shape of a lemon should be heavier than the said lemon! QED the lemon floats.

For completeness of this set of test, I think Jainser should repeat all of Thomas's experiments but to repeat for

Coke vs Diet Coke

and with or without ice

can you handle all of these Jainser?

Can I handle it, can I handle it...................I doubt it but I'll give it my best shot (no pun intended  )

This is how sad my like has come I'm actually looking forward to doing this. Boy I need a life......... :)

Maybe we could have a 'trading post' type thread and I could pick up a sensible, mature life there.....................

Jainser,

thats the 'spirit' - give it a go.

I doubt you would really want a 'sensible, mature life'.

OK

Not a good start as we had no coke in the house. Got a mate who lives round the corner so sent Reet out (*) to nick some off him.

Whilst she was gone I prepared the lemon and the lime - well I washed them under the tap. Lemon looked a lot fresher than the lime but both where very juicy.

Once Reetie was back I was off. Used a pint glass as it was larger. This is how sad I am I got all the kids round to watch as I dropped them in. Think they were expecting a bang or something.

"Is that is" said Shona
"Yep, there both floating, how interesting is that" I replied
At this point I looked round and I was all alone in the kitchen.

But that's it though I had about 5 of them and both the lemon and the lime floated in every one. I must admit I was/am some what dissapointed.

Was absolutely leathered by the end of night, but it was all in a good cause.

(*) she volunteered really as I couldn't drive as I had already sunk a few Buds.

I am CRUSHED by this news. Very, VERY disappointed indeed.

Knew this still knocking around (way dowen on page 6!) But it happened again. (I need to get our more - the years haven't changed a thing!)

We now have a lemon tree at home which churns out a staggering 6 - 8 lemons/year (yes YEAR!!) Lucky though that it's around Christmas time! Think will but a lime tree this year.
