An all important day to whisky loves around the world. Robbie Burns Day!
How are you celebrating the national Scottish poet's birthday?
Burns Night as it is called.
Do you celebrate with haggis, Ode to the Haggis, Auld Lang Syne, a wee dram or what?
Here is what Peter and I did to celebrate last year.
(American Haggis)

Is Burns night still a thing?
It doesn't figure in my calendar or anyone I know closely - certainly not in England I would have thought...??
Nice looking sausage you have there Ann!

I think it's a thing in Scotland. Elsewhere, it's just an excuse to drink whisky.
I always remember it because it's my sister's birthday.

Paul, Happy B'day to your sister!
We did celebrate with a wee dram.
It is always good to look at each day and celebrate something.

In Ireland, if you're ordering whisky/whiskey, you don't ask for a whisk(e)y, you ask for an Irish or a Scotch. My dad always drank Scotch and I felt this was slightly disloyal.
I had an aunt who lived in Killarney and we were staying in a hotel there many years ago (when Elaine was a baby) and dropped in to see her one morning at around 11:30. She welcomed us in and said "what'll you have - Scotch or Irish?".
Anyway, I always preferred Irish whiskey to Scotch whisky, and my favourite was Black Bush, which is made by Bushmills in Northern Ireland. I don't tend to drink spirits at all these days apart from a very occasional glass of brandy.

I've discovered a 'new' Irish whiskey, its called 'The Quiet Man' and is simply gorgeous.
Personally I prefer the blend to the single malt, which is not uncommon according to the staff there.

Never tried that, but my daughter Elaine got married last month in Cong, where most of the film "The Quiet Man" was shot. There's a statue of John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara (in a scene from the film) in the middle of the village.Wolfmiester wrote: ↑Mon Jan 29, 2018 7:52 pm I've discovered a 'new' Irish whiskey, its called 'The Quiet Man' and is simply gorgeous.
