In Ireland, if you're ordering whisky/whiskey, you don't ask for a whisk(e)y, you ask for an Irish or a Scotch. My dad always drank Scotch and I felt this was slightly disloyal.
I had an aunt who lived in Killarney and we were staying in a hotel there many years ago (when Elaine was a baby) and dropped in to see her one morning at around 11:30. She welcomed us in and said "what'll you have - Scotch or Irish?".
Anyway, I always preferred Irish whiskey to Scotch whisky, and my favourite was Black Bush, which is made by Bushmills in Northern Ireland. I don't tend to drink spirits at all these days apart from a very occasional glass of brandy.
