Oh, I loved it in the cinema and bought the DVD. I am a massive Batman (graphic novels) fan and this was the first film that was in any way true to the spirit of them. Love it.

Christian Bale shot to stardom in "Empire of the Sun". An old friend of mine got down to the last three (with Bale) and auditioned with Spielberg for that part. Bale won and the rest is history.

Find myself agreeing with Thomas - Batman Begins is the only decent film in the series.

Oh guys come on the first Batman was also very good. Although perhaps it should have been called 'Joker' as big Jack did steal the show!!

Good point, Pete. I loved the "original" Batman, but also very much enjoyed Batman Begins. They got a bit weird with The Penguin, IMO, in Batman 2, and then it just fell apart.

I really liked both the original Batman and Batman begins .
Batman 2 with the penguin and catwoman was okish, then they got rid of Tim Burton (after 2) and starting having a "Disney type" Batmans for the next few, which were very poor .

The original Batman was one of the first film's I remember seeing in the cinema . My sister and father went also, the film kept my sister (2 years younger then me up all night (scared) ) which I found incredibly amusing  (I was 8/9yrs)

Does anyone else hate the "Batman Begins" batmobil ? (which got so much possitive reaction in the media), I much prefer the Tim Burton one .

I'd agree too. The original Batman movie was great because it really captured the dark brooding atmosphere of Gotham City, and was quite a dark film in general.

Once it became a pick a batman franchise it lost the plot (both literally and figuratively).

Batman Begins got back to the darkness of the original and again made a lot of the tortured soul aspect of the character.

I didn't like "Batman" too much because:

1) He kills Joker. Ergo he is not Batman. Batman NEVER EVER kills. (OK, he did in the very very early novels and does kill Joker in "The Dark Knight Returns" but he does not kill the Joker in their first meeting! I am hoping that he does not kill the joker in the new Batman film too). Incidentally Batman Begins bent this rule a LONG way with the ending and Ra's being left on the train, but as an immortal I reckon Ra's has a fighting chance!
2) He is influenced by "the girl" (Vicky Vale). I have read a lot of Batman graphic novels and Batman is not prey to "victim" syndrome unless it is Robin. ("Robin - the boy hostage" - Joker).
3) Although I like Keaton as an actor, he is not "built" enough to be the Batman. Didn't convince me.
4) Joker was not in any way scary. He should be.

I liked the car although it was a pointless and impossible design. The "new" car is much more practical.

Michael Keaton is a great actor......really like his movies....My Life was very touching.....and Game 6 was excellent.....really would appeal to a more US audience....you have to be familiar with the Boston Red Sox Vs NY Yankee rivalry before Boston won the World Series......

If you are......(Tom Barrick) rent it....it's great!

I did watch the BoSox/Yankees series that year and very much enjoyed it. :) Michael Keaton, while I won't go so far as to call him a great actor, is a decent actor. If it weren't for him, films like Mr. Mom and Gungho would never have been made. Hey, I liked them.

Now lets not forget how hot Michelle Pfeiffer looked in that very cat suit. When she is bull whipping the dummies in the store.....WOW

Heard (or more than likely read) she did that all herself in one take. Sweet.

True, that and the overall dark look is why I said okish . Quite nice when shes cleaning herself in the film also :D . But against that I found the penguin very poor and annoying .

Now I have to watch Batman, the sequel, again. Damnit. And I'm not watching it for the fat penguin either.

Kate to Joe

Post by jainser »

I think one of Kate Beckinsales best movies is 'Serendipity' (also stars John Cusack - top boy)
There is no violence, no swearing, no sex ( :( !!!) just a good film. I think it's nice that films can be made witout all the above.
Don't get me wrong I'm no Mary Whitehouse but too often in films there is no need to the swearing, sex scenes etc. Yes some films need it - Great example being (the now old) Goodfellas - watched it the other night. Brillant.

Tommy DeVito: Who the f**k cares? I'll dig the f**kin' hole. I don't give a f**k. What is it, the first hole I dug? Not the first time I dug a hole. I'll f**kin' dig a hole. Where are the shovels?

Joe Pesci at his f**kin' best !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Goodfellas is a top top film . I haven't seen the film for a while but my favourite part is when there in the restaurant and the lead calls Joe Pesci a funny man . And Pesci starts into him - (I can't remember exact words, but very funny) . I also like what happens to Pesci in the corn field .

I haven't watched Serendipity, and rarly watch a film just for the leading lady, there are better sources for that on the Internet then in most films :-# .

My top 3 films are
- Shallow Grave - Great story on what suitcase of money will do to friends .
- Usual Suspects - Excellent story, who is Kaiser Sosea (Spelling ?)
- Matrix 1 - just the second part of this film, from the start of the attack of the agent controlled building onwards .

Other Top films (in no particular order)
- Underworld 1+2 - great fun and Kate
- Trainspotting - Great film, find the going cold turkey bit depressing though
- Lord of the Rings Trilogy (extended edition) - Yes I am a nerd
- Wild Things - Great story, great fun, Denise Richards =P~
- Go - Great fun, Katie Homes
- Godfather 1+2 (3 is weak) - Great film's, showing there ages though
- Pulp Fiction - Great fun
- One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - Thought provoking
- Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb - Some great bits, but most of it really showing its age
- Goodfellas - Great fun
- Batman 1 + Begins - Good fun
- Fight Club - A lot of good bits, why didn't they have some decent special effects for the final explosions of the financial center at the end ??
- Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Some really great bits, Black knight + Rabbit
- Aliens (2+ ~3) - I think 2 is the best Alien, 3 is ok, the other 2 a bit weak
- Alien vs Preadator - Great fun
- Preadator 1 - Great fun
- Das Boot - War from the Germans side, very good
- A Clockwork Orange - Ultra voilence
- Kill Bill - I prefer the first one, Great fun
- Million Dollar Baby - I think I liked this, Thought provoking
- Braveheart - Freedom !!
- Fargo - good laugh
- Star Wars 6-iogy - Lot's of good and weak bits
- Platoon, Full Metal Jacket - I liked both of these, both films are sort of mixed together in my memory
- Terminator Trilogy - Great fun, Kristania Loken in the third one
- Lock stock and Two smoking barrels + Snatch. - Great laugh

I had to use http://www.imdb.com/chart/top to refresh my memory of films I've watched . Even so, there's lots and lots I've forgot . Almost all of these have lot of violence in them, maybe I'm a little sick but I can live with that  .

I can do the entire Pesci scene with Liotta if you'd like, but there's no point, I don't want to edit all that much. :) "What. Funny like a clown?" Excellent film that is right up there with the best of the best. Oh, and Pesci in the corn field, that's Casino.

And your list is pretty decent. I thought I was the only Shallow Grave fan out there. Ewan McGregor, after hearing someone knocking at the door: "Are you expecting someone?" "No." "Well, I'm not expecting anyone either." <shrugs> and leaves to go do something else. Or the best line of the movie, from Eccleston: "Normally I don't usually meet people unless I already know them." And the whole "renting out the flat" scenario. Hysterical, gruesome, and vile, all in one.

Thanks Tom . Ya I really like it's sense of humour.

I also like in the hospidal Juilet is asked by one of her collegues "What, happened to that dead body", Juilet is sort of shitting it and says "Well he's dead" and the collegue says, "ya thats what I thought" and that's it .
I also like the ending in the car, when you think someone is screaming for one reason but find out it's for another reason .
I also like the inventive information gathering from the thugs .
The films music is very good also, and strange .

I do :D, haven't seen it for a while though and forgot about it . Great fun film and Denise also .

A minor annoyance is that the death count on earth rises AND FALLS throughout the film .

Every copy of Starship Troopers should be hunted down and burnt. :-#

When the book came out it was a scathing attack on how America was using its young men in a war that was being fought with no hope of success and was just gradually getting worse with whole Earth cities being wiped out.

You didn't need to be Einstien to see that it was an attack on the then ruling politics and how the "ordinary" man was being duped and conned. In the end it had to have a "feel good" ending but the original ending was much better with the young man at the centre of the book being lost, alone with no support.

What happens?

Hollywood gets it and destroys the central theme as being "too difficult to convey and understand" and turns it into a high body count slasher movie.

Pathetic.

 Maybe so but it is fun .

I mainly watch films for entertainment, most films are lowest common denominator so I don't expect too much from them

The last film I remember watching with serious points was Syriana about the Oil industry (Very good film)

The TV show Firefly (Sci fi/comedy) was/is one of my alltime favourite TV shows . I was really really looking forward to the film (Serenity), but while still very good . The amount it was dumbed down for the film was annoying .

I don't think you should get too worked up about it, its not worth the stress
