Exactly Peter. On our way back from Las Vegas last week, Jack and I diverted to a segment of old Route 66, the original highway from Chicago to Santa Monica pier in California. It's a lovely, undulating stretch of road along the railway. We stopped for lunch at Emma Jeans Holland Burger, which coincidentally is the diner she walks into after pounding her way out of the grave. So enjoyable to experience some Old West history and Hollywood history at the same time... and tasty lunch too.

In other words: your turn!

and some enjoyable driving too! Sounds like a fun road and a fun drive (supposed you had a fun car, too)!

which means I have a problem now, I'm not very good at film quotes. I might need some time to find one.

Peter, I have no idea about this one, but my son Ian, has suggested Psycho and Richard thinks that it's Silence of The Lambs? :)

Thank you, Peter.

Thank you for the link - never having seen Psycho, I will refrain from looking, in case it's the infamous ' shower scene '. 8-[

I have a cousin who has researched her family history and she told me that her father, my uncle, ( married to my mother's sister ) was a second cousin of Alfred Hitchcock:

Taken from: https://the.hitchcock.zone/wiki/Categor ... amily_Tree

Alfred Hitchcock's second cousins:

...

Harry Percival Hitchcock (b. 1910) likely married Irene Mary Dodge (b. 1916) in 1942 - My mother's sister.

Uncle Harry was certainly married to my mother's sister and although he was taller than his cousin Alfred, you could see the family resemblance.

I digress.  :fswink:

This is Ian's contribution. He apologises in advance for bringing the thread in to disrepute. :fswink:

This is my rifle. There are many others like it, but this one is mine. My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life. Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy, who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will. Before God I swear this creed: my rifle and myself are defenders of my country, we are the masters of our enemy, we are the saviors of my life. So be it, until there is no enemy, but peace. Amen.

Don't you think one of the charms of marriage is that it makes deception a necessity for both parties? May I ask why a beautiful woman who could have any man in this room wants to be married?

OK - time for a clue:

Mid 90's and it won one Oscar.

Another quote clue - the subject matter is the clue really:

"I don't know if I started drinking 'cause my wife left me or my wife left me 'cause I started drinking, but ***k it anyway."

Plummy, although I do not recognise the quote, I think I must have read some blurb about the film - probably a write up in the papers at some time or other. Did Colin Farrell or Nicholas Cage star in it?

Very funny Mr Plumb, although to be honest, it would not have made any difference if you had told me which one, as my memory is still refusing to fully co-operate.

I'm sure that I didn't read about the film back in the nineties, it was more recent than that.

All I can vaguely remember is something about a man with personal problems, who decides to go on a ' bender '.

Perhaps that will jiggle someone else's memory?
