Paul, I thought I could hear Eve Arden speaking those lines.

I rarely see newer films, but I did see the first half of this two weeks ago on an airplane. (Then we landed.)

A: (looking at a man being whipped) "Why is that man smiling?"

B: "He does not feel pain."

A: "So why beat him?"

No.

Although my film also involves slaves, it is set earlier.

Oh well, this is what happens when I try to please some young whippersnappers who complain that my choices are "ancient". ](*,) :-#

This film is from 2014, but it takes place several millennia earlier. It is a strange retelling of an old story, that was also the basis for a film from 1956.

Peter, Ben Hur and Spartacus are probably not set earlier enough and I am unaware of any re-makes? Could it be a story set in the time of the ancient Egyptians, Romans or Greeks?

Ben Hur was remade recently - but was panned by the critics I think.

I didn't know that Plummy - you're film knowledge is streets ahead of mine.

On second thoughts, as it was only several millennia earlier, perhaps I have gone too far back in time?

I'm puzzled too. Several suggests at least 4 or 5 thousand years ago, which would easily predate Ben Hur, Spartacus, etc. The pyramids were built around 4,600 years ago and a lot of slaves were involved in the construction, so I guess that might fit the bill. But I've no idea what film that would be.

I know that Charlton Heston played Moses in the Ten Commandments a few years before he made Ben Hur, so I guess that's a possibility. But I'm not aware of any recent remake.

That's a good suggestion Paul, and the film was made sometime during the 1950s. Perhaps there was a recent remake but under a different title?

The team of Jill and Paul are zeroing in on the film. Plummy may be correct that this one, too, was or should have been panned by the critics.

I didn't know it was a remake! I think it was Ridley Scott directed the new one?

On a not too dissimilar theme:

Continuing the unsuccessful 2017 film theme:

A: It's a hotdog.
B: Savages. What breed?

Wild guesses:

The Secret Life of Pets? (turned it off after 20 minutes)
Sausage Party? (loved this film for the sheer bravery of what they put out)

Not those - not an animation film if that helps.

Where we're going, "Eden..." It doesn't exist. The nurse got it from a comic book. You understand? It's not real.
