Re: Name that tune
OK - let's kill this one. It was Salt Water by Julian Lennon - I've heard it a bunch of times recently and liked it as much now as I did when it came out. Here's an older one (a decade earlier that charted very well on both sides of the pond and other countries as well. I saw a live/home version done during lockdown and it was very good.
lines 5&6 below are the biggest clue to my mind...
Easy, ready, willing, overtime
Where does it stop
Where do you dare me
To draw the line
You've got the body
Now you want my soul
Don't even think about it
Say no go

Re: Name that tune
Just listened to Saltwater on YouTube. Surprised I didn't know the song, but I probably know relatively few songs from the 90s.
It shows a level of concern about environmental issues that was ahead of its time.

It was dancing around in the back of my brain and I've finally got it - Night Fever by the Bee Gees. But it's the first lines you posted above that struck a chord, not the opening two lines.

Probably a bit of an obscure choice, so I will post a different one - it was "Dobermann" by Kasabian.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Wed Apr 07, 2021 10:00 pm I think you have everyone stumped Paul. Time for a clue or another line, maybe?

Re: Name that tune
You certainly have a wide ranging musical taste, Paul. I listed to that Kasabian song just now and it’s “interesting”. Not the most clearly enunciated song I’ve ever heard, but I think the opening line is “Silence in the yard”, although I can see why you might have remembered this as “The beast is in the yard”.
As for your latest lyrics, it sounds like a country song, but I’ve no idea what it is.

Re: Name that tune
You are right Paul, a very mis-leading error on my part - I do enjoy loads of different types of music, with a particular liking for the sort of post-punk, new wave stuff - Boomtown Rats, Squeeze, the Clash and the like - but cannot stand R&B, Soul, Motown and most of the rubbish bubblegum pop that makes the charts these days.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 9:56 am You certainly have a wide ranging musical taste, Paul. You are right about it being a country song, but I am going to need a bit more detail than that

Re: Name that tune
I went to see the Boomtown Rats at Leopardstown racecourse about 5 years ago. It was a kinda surreal experience, with the band appearing after the racing for the day had finished. Small enough crowd, but a very energetic performance by the band. Geldof had got into trouble a few weeks previously for castigating the crowd for not dressing properly to attend one of his concerts (somewhere in the UK) and he made a similar remark to the crowd at Leopardstown, pointing out that his snakeskin trousers were a proper example of how someone should dress when attending a rock concert.
As for your country song, not a snowball’s chance in hell that I will recognise it.
