Paul, correct about George Harrison, although I don't think this one is going to fly.

It's What is life

I won't put another one up, so will hand the baton over to you again.
The closest I got was "In My Life", which I did not think was correct. :(

It did have the right number of words, and one of them was correct! #-o

Peter, that is closer than Paul's suggestion so I think in all fairness, the baton should be handed to you. :)

Thanks Jill. I seem to keep getting in the driving seat by default!

Just seen Jill’s later posts now. Please ignore my last post, although I reserve the right to use it as my next song if I happen to recognise (or guess!) whatever song Peter puts up.

Over to you, Peter!

Jill, I do not want us to set a bad precedent by relying on fairness.

Paul, I think that is This May Be The Last Time.

I believe I am correct about your song, so I will post mine now. In keeping with the sentiment of my new pick:

"Alone in a cold day dawning
Are you still free"

Given that you knew both songs [although the title of the Stones song is just The Last Time), I think you’re more than entitled to put one up.

Don’t think I recognise yours, but maybe it’s lurking somewhere in the back of my mind.

Hopefully, it is there. The song charted in the UK; it was a hit in the US and an even bigger hit in Canada. Not bad for a singer from England.

"Stand up in a clear blue morning
Until you see
What can be
Alone in a cold day dawning
Are you still free
Can you be
And that old grey wind is blowing
And there's nothing left worth knowing
And it's time you should be going"

Another good one Peter, “alone in a cold day morning” has been going around in my head since yesterday!
I think I’ve got it... “Valerie” by Steve Windwood?

Wolfie, to nitpick, it is "Winwood".

The bigger mistake is that it is not Valerie.

Same cadence then?

Thanks for the extra lines, Peter. I'm pretty sure I don't know the song, or if I do, I don't know it well enough to recognise those lyrics.

Wolfie, I thought Valerie was by The Zutons (and also recorded by Amy Winehouse)? I remember a song by Stevie Winwood, but I always thought he was singing Follow Me not Valerie. 8)

No Paul, it was definitely Valerie, a different song to the Zutons one.
The only other SW song I know is Higher Love, but the lyrics don’t fit in my head...

Yes, I kinda figured that out. Just saying that his diction was not 100% clear. And I'm not making that up - I genuinely thought he was singing follow me.

I've had to look it up, as it was driving me mad.
Of course I know the song, but would not have got the title.
Very good album from 1980 - Arc of a Diver.
He supported Clapton at Hyde Park about 5 yrs ago, he was very good. Great back catalog going back a LONG way... Brummie too I think 8)

Paul, I do not understand your last post. However, since no one else wants to take a chance on it, I will reveal the name of my song.

When You See A Chance.

Next, taking my inspiration from Paul,

"where I go, what I do, who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me."

Hole in my shoe was the biggest hit by Traffic, which was a band formed by Steve Winwood in the late 1960s.

Your song doesn’t ring any bells right now, but maybe it will come to me.

Paul, how about a new wrinkle on this thread, entitled

Dueling Songs. Or should it be Dualing Songs?

In other words, lyrics from two different songs with the same title. So, to continue from my previous post,

"You don't know how you met me"

Don’t know either song, I’m afraid. I could hazard a guess based on the clues you’ve provided, but I think I might leave it to someone who actually recognises the lyrics.

Go ahead and guess. The someone who actually recognizes the lyrics has not shown up yet.

Of course, if somehow you do not guess correctly, I will be forced to post additional lyrics.

I’m tempted to ask for additional lyrics, but there may not be any left! Based on the clues provided, I presume the songs are called Follow Me.

If this is correct, I will try to think of a song title that has been used more than once.

Paul, it is actually Valarie, it just sounds like Follow Me. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Yes, Follow Me, by John Denver and Uncle Kracker.

I did not intend to change this thread into a Dual one. I thought that was a one-off, or perhaps occasional try. We have few enough players at present. But, if you want to try...

There are more lyrics.

"You don't know how you met me
You don't know why
You can't turn around
And say goodbye
All you know is when I'm with you
I make you free
And swim through your veins
Like a fish in the sea"

"It's by far the hardest thing I've ever done,
To be so in love with you and so alone.
Follow me where I go, what I do, who I know
Make it part of you to be a part of me.
Follow me up and down,
All the way and all around,
Take my hand and say you'll follow me."

Thanks Peter

I thought I’d try to go one better. Here are three sets of lyrics from three totally different songs with the same title that were all hits within a few months of each other.

1. You don't need money, don't take fame. Don't need no credit card to ride this train.
2. 'Cause I am your lady. And you are my man.
3. A force from above. Cleaning my soul.

Extra points for naming all three artists!

Paul, I'll start the ball rolling with The Power of Love by Huey Lewis for song number one.

There's something familiar about song number two but I cannot place it at the moment.

No idea about song number three.

Well done Jill. You got the title of the song, or should I say, all three songs. So, you get to put another one up.

But still brownie points available for anyone who can name the artists who recorded the other two songs.
