In the US there's no "assist" in football! ( ) Basketball, yes...

On a more serious note, your contribution would have absolutely been an assist if I hadn't already figured it out. I know I have no proof of this, but I was sitting in a queue for an online game I like to play, and I was rehashing the "parting" verses that Jill had originally posted. Suddenly, the correct rhythm entered my addled brain, and I was able to move on to other parts of the song and eventually stumble onto the title. It's funny sometimes how these play out in my head... :)

So, I actually tabbed out of the game lobby, logged in here to post my answer and saw the conversation. So, in this particular case, it was a welcome confirmation I was on the right track!
Or I could be really pedantic and say that the correct title is Won’t Get Fooled Again.

When I say football, I'm talking about what you Americans refer to as soccer.

Anyway, I totally accept that you didn't need my contribution and I think you should put up the next set of lyrics Ron. 8)

LoL, I was only playing the naive and/or stupid American - It's hard to get the joke across the pond correctly, I guess... :D
You are up next.
Thank you, Jill.

I'm kind of hesitant to try this one as it's pretty new (under 5 years), but I loved it from first listen. I did check Wikipedia, and it charted in the low single digits across Europe, so there's hope!

Next clues:

Another line (other than being from the same song, no relationship to the previous line):

Am I coming out of left field?

Also, speaking of European charting, the name of the band begins with a European country's name... :)

Struggling to think of bands starting with EU countries...Swedish House Mafia? although "Swedish" isn't a country so kinda rules them out.

Alright, it's pretty obvious you old fogies aren't keeping up with the times... :D (I have no room to talk here)

Okay, next hint - as stated earlier, the band name starts with a European country - said country could be said to be the conjoined twin to Spain (to the left!)

Final hint - the most catchy part of the song:

Ooh Ooh*, I'm a rebel just for kicks, now,
I've been feelin' it since 1966, now,

* Not sure of the spelling, but sounds like a high-pitched "eww ooo"

I read the posts here every now and then, and really don't have much input. Age should 't be the problem, turning 60 later this year.
So far the introduction, this time I at least think to know the name of the group: Portugal the man. The name of the song slipper my mind though. Kind of retro disco whatever, liiked the song, forgot the name.

I’d never heard of them, so I decided to look them up on YouTube. Quite a catchy tune, although I found myself wondering where the singer was hiding when I watched the video. I’ve listened to some of their other songs and they’re pretty good.

fkoene has correctly named the band, and I'm happy to see Paul has some new music to appreciate... :)

I'll leave it up for another day.

Definitely. I listened to a number of their songs yesterday. If I ever get back to doing karaoke again (which may never happen, due to public health issues) I’d love to give the song in question a try, although I don’t think I’d be able to pitch my voice high enough.

Alright, I give... :) It was:

Feel It Still - Portugal the Man

And seriously, if you haven't heard it, take a few minutes and listen in. I recommend NOT watching the video (at least the first time) and just listening:

Okay, that done, hopefully this one will be easier:

Man, it's a hot one

Sorry to leave ya'll hanging - been super busy... :(

Anyway, this was released in 1999, but it was super popular. Charted highly all over the world. Here's another line. Someone knows this song, and I'll keep feeding lines until you get it! :D

Man, it's a hot one,
Like seven inches from the midday sun

They lyrics are similar to a line from Everyday People (Sly & the Family Stone, covered by Joan Jett), but I don't think they're quite right.
