Re: Name that tune
Hopefully I, and everyone, will soon have reasons to feel more hopeful!!
Until then, I am continuing my current mood with this song.
"Mostly say 'Hooray for our side'".

Yes Ron, it is Buffalo Springfield. If by "slippery" you mean a title that is not within the lyrics, then yes again.

Re: Name that tune
I guess having the group is not enough. More lyrics before I give up. Maybe somebody's brain will be jogged.
"There's battle lines being drawn
And nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speakin' their minds
A-gettin' so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop
Hey, what's that sound?
Everybody look what's going down"

Re: Name that tune
Still know it and could recite several more lyrics, but the title escapes me...
And, yeah, "slippery" is the technical term for titles not contained within the lyrics or buried so deeply as to be barely noticeable...

Peter, although I only keep ' singing ' part of the song, Ian may have come to your rescue ... is it For what it's worth?
Whoa! A robin has just flown inside the conservatory, I think he may have been attracted by the cake crumbs on our empty plates. I've had to quickly shut the interior doors. He's having a little feast. He's gone. What a little treat for us.

Hi Jill. Were the windows in your conservatory open without screens?
You (and Ian) are correct.
I think Rockin' Robin would be appropriate, but perhaps too obvious.

LoL - immense fail on my part. I see the title, and it still doesn't "ring a bell"... I'm not sure what I thought the song was called, but I like it and knew the artist. Brains are fun!

Re: Name that tune
Thank you Peter.
The robin came in through the open outside conservatory doors. I’m not sure if he had just lost his way a little, or whether he had been spying on us ( and the cake ) from somewhere outside. Not so much Rockin' Robin as Robbin' Robin perhaps.
We had been out earlier to a hawk and falconry display, so perhaps Mr Robin decided that we were bird friendly.
Lucky dip on my rowing iPod again … and no, it’s not something by The Byrds.
If I could
Baby I'd give you my world

Re: Name that tune
Jill, maybe the robin thought that it wanted to go into your conservatory and, as far as it was concerned, you can Go You Own Way!
A few years ago, I looked out the back window and after blinking and rubbing my eyes a bit, I decided that yes, it was a hawk perched on the back of a chair inside our screened porch. A young red-tailed hawk had flown through the screening, probably attracted by a wooden bird ornament on a table. He could not find his way out again; the hole he crashed through the screen was quite small. I open the door, and had to go to the opposite side outside the porch to get him to find the open door and fly away. We then had to patch the hole in the screen and clean the floor under the chair.
I have a photo of the hawk on the chair; if I locate it on the computer I will add it.
All this is related, since the hawk was FLEET of wing through the WOOD. You have a problem with that MACK?

Peter, what Paul says.
We will look forward to hopefully seeing a photo of young Mr red-tailed hawk.
And for providing the correct answer … a feather in your cap.
Over to you

Re: Name that tune
I had considered putting up the answer as Peter didn't specifically say that that was his guess. But I figured that would be robin' him of his chance to put one up and would be nothing to crow about.

Re: Name that tune
Thank you Paul and Jill. I worked on that for a bit, and it is very nice to to hear "very clever Peter!" rather than "you jerk!".
I am having trouble coming up with a song that I have not already used. I thought of a few that would have kept the theme going, had I not used them.
Also, have not found the Mr. hawk picture.
Next, with no worries about where and when it was popular.

Those lyrics are driving me out of my mind
I feel like I should know it, but it’s just not clicking.

I do not know how I missed the comments flying between Paul and Jill, but probably better that I did not get tempted to egg you on.
Paul, if it is a question of having two possible answers, you will just have to finally decide, and say yes to one and let the other one ride.Paul Victory wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 4:01 pm I feel like I should know it, but it’s just not clicking.

Re: Name that tune
Thanks Peter. I realise there’s a clue (probably a fairly significant one) in your last post, but it just doesn’t ring any bells.
There was a song called “Making your mind up” by Bucks Fizz that was a Eurovision Song Contest winner back in the 80s, but those lyrics are definitely not in that song.
Then I thought of “Should I stay or should I go” by The Clash, but again there’s nothing even close to those lyrics in the song.
So my suspicion is that the song in question was a hit in the US, but didn’t hit the charts on this side of the Atlantic.
Of course I could be totally wrong and someone from the UK will jump in with the correct answer.

Paul, I gave it two days, and you are still correct - no one jumped inPaul Victory wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2020 9:48 am There was a song called “Making your mind up” by Bucks Fizz that was a Eurovision Song Contest winner back in the 80s

There apparently was a 1966 British cover of the song, and, I guess, you are spared "food" from Denny's, since the song was used in a breakfast commercial.
The song is Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind? by The Lovin' Spoonful.
I have decided and made up my mind that since you had many of the words of the title in your guess, Paul, it is your turn now.
"Did you ever have to make up your mind?
And pick up on one and leave the other behind?
It's not often easy and not often kind.
Did you ever have to make up your mind?
Did you ever have to finally decide?
And say yes to one and let the other one ride?
There's so many changes and tears you must hide.
Did you ever have to finally decide?"
