Having decided that I definitely don't know this, I decided to google the lyrics. I have to say I don't think I had ever heard the song before, nor had I heard of the band. Good video though!

That's true. I think that song will grow on me - reminds me a bit of Bohemian Rhapsody.

And I had never heard of Portugal. The Man before someone (was it you?) posted lyrics from Feel It Still on this thread and I just love that song.

No that one wasn’t one of mine - didn’t know that one either - I started listening to some Gordon Lightfoot after Peter chose “Sundown” - a track I know and like but hadn’t heard for many years and didn’t know who performed it

Not sure anyone is going to get my track -

It is “Welcome To The Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance

Wolfie was closest so I think he should pick the next one

ok then, a quick search suggests this song has not been used before, and was a big hit on both sides of the Atlantic...

Assuming I am correct I've taken the liberty of chucking a new one up:

Just a smile, just a smile
Hold me captive just a while
I can't explain why I've become

(the next 2 words are the title). Someone else will have to attest to a correct answer unless it arrives before late evening today.

Actually Dave you are not 100% correct.
In incorrectly naming the performer, you forfeit the “name that tune” game 😂
It was the Commodores, but I’ll let you off this time 😇

Oh no, sir!

This has always been the Name that TUNE thread!

The Panel of Judges ( ) has always ruled that mis-identified performers have no bearing on the correct identification of the song.

Hi Paul

I will fill in for Plummy while he is away - I didn't have a clue anyway so just Googled the answer.

I'm afraid you are incorrect with "Cathy's Clown".

Very good, Wolfie - I'm sure Plummy won't mind if I say you have it - it is actually Miss Chatelaine, by KD Lang, but in my book your answer is close enough.

Clue time?
Probably the first “novelty record”?? But also a hit decades later. Very British.

Steve, is this The Ying Tong Song? Only I think I have finally worked out where your chosen lyric fits in. If I'm correct, then knowing the answer, finally says everything about me.

Signed (possibly )

We listened, and we still qualify as your US friends!

Actually, if you had said "The Goons", we would have understood completely, even though the only Goons song we know is "I'm Walking Backwards For Christmas".

And, for the record, we could not hear "Take me back to Vienna” in the "lyrics".

I have just finished some research in my copy of The Goon Show Scripts, (doesn't everyone have a copy?), and in skimming through The Dreaded Batter Pudding Hurler (of Bexhill-0n-Sea), I did not find the song. I do see that this episode was transmitted on Tuesday, 12th October 1954, 8:30 - 9:00 p.m. Home Service.

The above is just for informational purposes, and does not in any way affect this thread or its results.

Phew, I'm greatly relieved :-) :-)
The line is sung by the soprano a couple of times towards the end...

Thank you Steve - it was such a relief to eventually have that ' lightbulb moment '. It was also a relief for poor Richard who no longer had to hear me singing ( in a silly voice ) TMBTV and saying to him," I know this, heck what the heck is it? "

Peter, the soprano sings TMBTV 1.40 minutes and 2.07 minutes into the song.

We have many Goon Show recordings, hence the reference to TDBPHOBOS - that was me being silly as it has always been my favourite episode. It was not a claim that the song was included in that particular episode. Apologies for any misunderstandings. :)

Here is my offering:

And it was your heart on the line
