Peter_S wrote: Thu May 06, 2021 2:41 am Based on the two word hint, I said Closing Time.

Our daughter, here so we can see her in person for the first time in a year and a half, said "gather up your jackets, move into the exit, hope you found a friend".
I decided to listen to this song, although I'd never heard of either the band or the song. It's quite a pleasant song and I think it's the answer to Ron's question. Apparently, it's played a lot at graduation dances and I can understand why.

I also decided to listen to Last Call, but there seem to be several different songs with the same title, so I didn't bother - particularly as I'd already determined that your first guess was correct.

Thanks Paul.

I should have resisted the urge to rethink (on my own!) after 1 AM. #-o

LoL, you guys are funny...

Peter, you are correct, and your daughter's contribution of additional lyrics made me smile.

It's "Closing Time by Semisonic" - give it a listen.

Thanks Ron.

I asked my daughter for a "more modern" song than I would know. She suggested this, which apparently was a number 1 in Ireland and the UK, and also big in the US. I don't know, since I never heard (or of) it. 8-[
She asked if I thought it was too easy; how would I know!

Take that look from off your face

Well it’s definitely Oasis. Many of their songs from that album merge in my head, but I think it’s “Don’t look back in anger”?

Well done Shmoo. =D>

Correct on both song and artist.

Your choice now on how "modern" you want to go.

Thanks Peter. I could go really modern and ask my teenagers, but probably none of us would stand a chance then. Here’s something that had a bit of global reach:

Will your system be alright
When you dream of home tonight?

It looks like you all need a couple more lines. This band may be relatively recent (aka this century) but they are huge globally:

Will your system be alright
When you dream of home tonight?
There is no message we're receiving
Let me know, is your heart still beating?

Sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it. Maybe another line or two would help?

Apologies, I dropped the ball the last couple of days (busy at work) and didn't respond to earlier suggestions.
You are of course correct Paul. I saw them at Glastonbury a few years ago (educating my kids!) and they were truly awesome live. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend it. I find their albums have a nice rowing rhythm too
Your go Paul.

"...for Desmond and Molly Jones, ho ho ho"

Oblah Dee

At least I think that is enough, and the entire title.

Thank you Paul.

I have been thinking about this song lately. When a hint is needed, it will explain why. :(

Very quick, and very correct, Paul G. =D>

I was worried that the song apparently did not chart in the UK or South Africa. However, our daughter visited us last week; the first time we have seen her in-person in a year and a half. Unfortunately, the song came to mind a few times. ](*,) #-o
