Scrap this one, as I only put it up May 2020 - ' mash potato brain ' strikes again. #-o

A re-think is needed, hopefully sometime today.

Hi Steve - right group, wrong song.

I was going to put up another song but we may as well stay with this one now. For the record, when I put this tune up before, you came up with the correct answer.

Thank you Steve - this time I have checked that this tune hasn’t been put up before.

There is a connection between the singers of this song and Lord of The Rings.

I can't believe

I presume the LOTR connection is Steve Tyler and Aerosmith.

The only Aerosmith song I can think of is “I don’t want to miss a thing” although I don’t remember those particular words in that song.

Paul, that’s a very well thought out suggestion, especially as Liv Tyler starred in the LOTR trilogy - but alas, not the correct answer.

I’ll have to be more direct or otherwise, I don’t think anyone will get this. There’s a clue in there somewhere.

Beginning of the first verse:

Since she's been gone
I want no one to talk to me

Hugely famous 1960/1970 British group. When I watched them on the TV and heard my screaming, female contemporaries, I would always think, " Oh, for God's sake! Shut up! I can't hear the music! "

From the description, it sounds like the Beatles. But I can't think of any connection between them and LOTR and I can't think of any Beatles song that contains those lyrics. It sounds like the type of wording that might appear in the song Girl, but I know it's not there.

Thank you Paul and yes, it is by the Beatles - Don't Bother Me.

The connection is Peter Jackson - he has made a documentary about the Beatles titled, ' Get Back ' which will be released sometime in August.

I can't think of another suitable tune to put up, so will let someone else take a turn.

I thought I knew pretty much all the songs released by the Beatles during the 1960s, but I don’t think I’ve ever heard that song before. Then I looked up With the Beatles and the only track I recognise that wasn’t a over of someone else’s song is all my loving. So I guess my knowledge of the Beatles stems from a year or two later.

As you have thrown it open, I heard this song on the radio the other day for the first time in a very long time.

I saw a welcoming light and stopped to rest for the night

I can see why you might think that Paul, as a lot of the words are the same. But the last 3 last lines of the first verse of Hotel California are as follows:

I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night

My song was somewhat earlier. I wonder was there some unconscious plagiarism going on when the Eagles wrote their song?

Correct. I'd completely forgotten about Gene Pitney until I heard that song the other day. Very distinctive voice.

Thank you Paul - it was one of those rare occasions when I knew the answer straight away.

Even after all these years, it still makes me chuckle when I hear the last two lines of the first verse:

For something happened to me as I was driving home
And I'm not the same anymore

To the best of my knowledge, this one hasn’t come up before:

Now no one's knocked upon my door
For a thousand years or more

Shows I'm getting old, this would have been instant not so long back ... :-)
One of my favorite bands, and my 2nd gig when I was 15, The Police with "So Lonely".
I even played the album this weekend

Although the words didn’t strike a chord, the song did and I’m pretty sure you’re right. Though I guess we should wait for official confirmation from Jill.

Steve and Paul, official confirmation coming up. Correct. =D>

Ageing? What’s that then? Sounds more like a mild case of MPB - mashed potato brain.

Funny things our brains - we can easily sing along to a song but then, when we see some of the lyrics written down, we are temporarily ( or on some occasions completely ) stumped. #-o

Over to you Steve for some possible stumping …
