Re: Name that tune
Never heard of the band. So I decided to look them up in my Guinness Hit Singles Book. They had one hit in the UK (the one named above) and that song reached number 51 in the UK charts. I think things are probably a lot more global now than they were back then.

Thank you Paul
Carry on Wayward Son is familiar to Richard because he has a cover version by Yngwie Malmsteen, which is on his Rising Force album.
I do not think this has been up before but as my brain resembles a marshmallow at the moment, then anything is possible.
Leaving just your picture behind

Perhaps some more lyrics will help.

Re: Name that tune
Well Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch, (don't blush, Jill), I was pretty sure it was the Four Tops, but I could not get the title. I could hear the part you quoted, but nothing more for a while. Banging my head against various things did not help (much ). Eventually I could get the next lines.
I Can't Help Myself.
This one is almost as old as the ones I choose!
ps: funny that I could not get the first clue, since I listened to it a thousand times!

Re: Name that tune
Peter, if at first you do not succeed, then try, try, again.
It was the usual problem of putting up some song lyrics that would be reasonably familiar and so I resorted again to shuffling through my iPod playlists. I Can't Help Myself seemed to be the first suitable song that came up.
I haven’t listened to any radio music shows for years, as I found the repetitive jingles and adverts extremely irritating. Therefore, for the last twenty years or so, my knowledge of popular music has been somewhat patchy and then, only usually heard at the hairdressers … sigh … at the hairdressers … sigh … at the hairdressers … sigh …
Peter, some music is timeless.
Over to you.

Thank Jill.
Oops, the one I just posted, and then edited out, has been used.
I hope I think of a new one before someone answers.

Re: Name that tune
It has taken a while, since all the songs I come up with have been used already. I finally came up with one; hopefully someone knows it.
"people are finally getting together"
Also, a frequent player here has a birthday today. So, I want to say to Mr. Smith
Happy Birthday Wolfie.

Paul, as you know, since you started a thread to see how people are doing during this pandemic, that it is important to stay in touch with others, both friend and lover.
I will come back with another clue tomorrow.

I think if I knew it, I would actually recognise it by now! Thanks for the hint, though.

Re: Name that tune
I decided to give up and google it. You seem to have an enormous catalogue of really obscure songs.
I've never heard of the artists or heard the song before. It was a number 10 hit in the US, but it doesn't appear to have charted on this side of the Atlantic.
I think you should put us out of our misery and pick another song. (Just a suggestion, mind you - please feel free to tell me where to get off!)

Re: Name that tune
Thank you for answering me; no one knows it. As Paul notes, it was not on the charts in UK/Europe, but it was used in several movies. Oh well.
The lyrics say "reach out in the darkness", which I thought was the title, but apparently, the official title is Reach Out Of the Darkness, by Friend and Lover.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I keep you amused. However, after someone names my next song and puts me out of all our misery, I will wait for someone else to name the songs, even when I know them. At least, I will give several days before I jump in.
I checked, and this song has not been used here before, but I believe people may know it.

Re: Name that tune
Sorry, Peter, I’m confused. Is there a clue to a new song in the above post?

Re: Name that tune
Yes Paul. In my misguided way, I thought it might be too easy ( ), so included some lyrics, albeit with a different cadence, and part of the song title, in my text.
I will wait a bit, and then admit that I was not understood, again!

Re: Name that tune
Excellent guess, that's where I was headed as well, but couldn't pull up the song for "I keep you amused" (thought at first it was a Stones song).

Re: Name that tune
Thanks Peter. I'm also finding it hard to pick a song that hasn't already appeared on this thread. I've also been trying to find a song that was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic.
After a couple of false starts, I came up with the following: Words mean so little when you look up and smile
