Sounds a bit like Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay, but I don't think that's it.

Re: Name that tune
Correct - that's not it. Big clue: the title of the song is the next line.

Clues:
From a 1977 album and released as a single in 1980. Often given the wrong title owing to repeated other phrases used in the lyrics

Given the time line, I know I'll know the song ... but can't place it

I'm a bit like Wolfie. I think I should know it, but it's just not clicking. Another clue perhaps, or another line from the song?

Re: Name that tune
I was a bit amazed that this didn't go in seconds. Maybe it's one of those so obvious when you know it ones. To hurry things along here are more lines (the dots denoting the missing words):
Rise up this mornin,
Smiled with the risin sun,
..... ...... .....
Pitch by my doorstep
Singin sweet songs

Re: Name that tune
I thought I knew it! It’s Three Little Birds by Bob Marley.
As a Spurs fan, it brings back happy memories of the Champions League semi final second leg against Ajax. Spurs were 2-0 down on the night and 3-0 on aggregate at half time and they started playing that song over the PA system. It turns out the Ajax fans actually did have something to worry about!

Is that the title of the song??!! We both like it, but never knew the actual title.
In any event, we hope that every little thing (or at least some big things) will be alright.
Hope everyone is staying safe,

Re: Name that tune
As I'm pretty sure Three Little Birds is right, I figured I'll put another one up. I was going to continue the theme (sort of) by going for Dreadlock Holiday, but I searched the thread and it's already been done. So here's one that's not on the thread (at least I couldn't find it).
I know you know it doesn't mean that much to me

Re: Name that tune
Three Little Birds is definitely correct. Amazed it look that long though I think some people call it: "Don't worry, about a thing"

Re: Name that tune
Oh, good line! I'm running it through my head in various patterns trying to latch on to where I know it from. Unfortunately, no words before or after this line are coming to me at the moment...

Paul, have you no mercy on my poor brain? This one has been driving me mad all day until " Eureka! " 10cc and I'm not in love
I have just seen Plummy's post.

Nicely done, Paul. A perfect line for this game. One question - and yes, I'm showing my cluelessness - but where did the 10cc clue show up? I've read your originating post several times, but I'm just not seeing it...
edit: Never mind - I just Googled "Dreadlock Holiday" and got my answer!

Re: Name that tune
Ah Plummy, I know 100% WHO this next one is as one of them went to my school and two of them lived round the corner.
Sadly it was my sister who was obsessed with them whilst I had moved on to rock music so I can't recall which song!!
I could guess, but I'll keep trying it in my head for a while ...

Re: Name that tune
I don't recognise the lyrics, but I've a vague recollection of Steve saying that someone from Duran Duran went to his school. But that may just be social isolation scrambling my brain.

Re: Name that tune
You have a very, very good memory there Paul!
So I'm going to guess "A view to a Kill"
(I just hope I do have it right about the band and don't turn out to be a right fool )

Re: Name that tune
Ah, the first line was instantly recognisable, but hadn't a clue about the 2nd, which threw me. Thought it might have been "Wild Boys" too.
Next jobbie ... possibly very easy, we'll see ...
