I'm not 100% sure, but I think it could be:
Philadelphia Freedom - (Sir) Elton John

Great spot Ron!
First line, so should be "easy". But another one where the 'cadence' (correct term?) is so important...

Re: Name that tune
Exactly right, Wolfie; when I first read it, I had no idea what it was. As I reread it a couple of times, something shifted in the cadence, and it sounded familiar. Once I identified it as an Elton John song, I still had to hum several lines before I could remember the chorus... and thus the title... Brains are funny things...Wolfmiester wrote: ↑Wed Feb 26, 2020 10:16 am Great spot Ron!

Alright, here's the next one - somewhat randomly selected from my personal list of MP3's...

I think that might be Mambo Number Five.

Re: Name that tune
That's right, Paul! A little too easy, perhaps, but I learned a little something prior to posting:
1. I was surprised it hadn't been posted before given its international popularity.
2. I was surprised to find that Lou Bega's hit was a cover (of sorts) of a 1950 Cuban artist by the name of Dámaso Pérez Prado - link to original: https://youtu.be/dKuvJ7zG9LI
3. Mambo No. 8 (also Prado) is pretty good, too...
Your turn!

This also reminded me of one of my kids' and I's favorite parodies from their younger days. If you haven't seen "Combo #5", you owe it to yourself to take a look:

Re: Name that tune
Thanks Ron. There was a parody version of Brand New Key that was a hit in the UK and Ireland, so I was going to put up some words from the original song, but a search of this thread revealed that it has already been asked. So here's another oldie.

I thought that would be instantly recognisable! Here's the next line.

Re: Name that tune
Paul, I am not going down to Masker's farm. I am sailing along the coast of South Georgia island. We got here much more easily than Shackleton!

Re: Name that tune
That sounds like an amazing trip. Enjoy!
You clearly recognise the song, although it was Yasgur’s farm, not Masker’s. Are you going to leave it to someone else to name the tune?

Another day, another line. The first one, this time.

It's Joni Mitchell. This live version gives me the shivers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRjQCvfcXn0

Re: Name that tune
Embarrassingly enough, I didn't recognize the tune even listening to her sing. Then I queued up the Crosby/Stills/Nash/Young/etc. version and said, Oh yeah, I know that song!Paul Victory wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2020 1:44 pmIt's Joni Mitchell. Re: Name that tune
I listened to the CSN version just now and it's very different - almost to the point of being unrecognisable as the same song. The version I was most familiar with was by Matthews Southern Comfort and this was fairly similar to the original, but without the incredible high notes sung by Joni MItchell.Draggon wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 1:06 pmEmbarrassingly enough, I didn't recognize the tune even listening to her sing. Re: Name that tune
Steve, you must be thinking of another song as the word fall doesn't appear anywhere in the lyrics.Wolfmiester wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2020 7:51 pm arrrggghh, I think I just about don't know this one!

I think this one would be familiar to everyone and comes under the genre, Power Ballad. Has a wonderful gospel choir as backing. Another line might help perhaps:
Now this mountain I must climb
Feels like a world upon my shoulder
