Re: Name that tune
Thank you Steve - as a woman, mature in body although perhaps not always in mind, I appreciate the compliment.
I could leave it at that but I feel honour bound ( as a warning to others ) to confess. Due to my hurried and slapdash typing and failure to check my message before posting, the word, ‘ spotty ‘ should have read, ‘ sporty ‘ . ...
Please do not spoil my day though by admitting that the word, ‘ pretty ‘ should have read, ‘ petty ‘ or ‘ potty ‘.
This is from a song that came up on my rowing, iPod this morning - a Gold Star and an apple for the winner.
Now my girl you're so young and pretty

Thanks Jill. I did not have to look up the song, but I did have to look up Cox's Orange Pippin!
A famous man once said, not specifically about this song, that it looks like deja vu all over again. Unfortunately, not funny this time either.
"Handful of Senators don't pass legislation".

I should of known this would happen, since

Very topical! Eve of Destruction by Barry McGuire.

Actually, I just listened to the song on youtube and both quotes were from that song.

Three correct posts, Paul, but you still get only one chance to post the next song!

Re: Name that tune
I could hear the song in my head, but just could not at first tell who was singing! I thought I heard The Seekers, and Peter, Paul, and Mary. Not sure who else sang it besides the Byrds.
Turn, Turn, Turn.
Thanks for choosing something Biblical, Paul.

Re: Name that tune
Thanks Peter, but the reasons I chose that song are far more prosaic.
First, it played on YouTube immediately after I listened to Eve of Destruction. Second, I thought it was appropriate to choose a song with the same word repeated 3 times in the title as you had just pointed out that I had 3 correct posts.
Anyway, time for you to pick another one.

Thanks again, Paul.
I have hopes for this one, so I will not post too much first.

Re: Name that tune
I can’t quite place this one, but I think the next line might be something like “but that’s not what I’m looking for”.
By the way, another reason that Turn, Turn, Turn seemed like the ideal choice was because it ended on a note of hope (and the last line was the only line in the whole song that wasn’t an immediate giveaway.)

Re: Name that tune
Sorry Paul, the next line is "All I'm saying is I'm not ready".
Your choice of Turn! Turn! Turn! (with, apparently, exclamation marks rather than commas) also followed the three time repetition of "over" in my song.
The last line, and the title, are the words written by Pete Seeger. The rest were by King Solomon!

Okay, let's try that entire verse.
"Yes, and I ain't saying you ain't pretty
All I'm saying is I'm not ready
For any person place or thing
To try and pull the reins in on me"

Re: Name that tune
I gave up and googled it. Another song I don't think I've ever heard. Nice song though.
I think the issue with a lot of songs posted here is that they were hits on only one side of the Atlantic. So those living on the other side generally won't recognise a song unless they happen to be a particular fan of the artist in question. That, and the fact that there's only a handful of people following this thread in any event.

Re: Name that tune
Paul, I sometimes check whether a song was a hit in the UK, but, I guess, not this one. It seems to have been a hit on both sides of the Pacific!
Weekly charts
Chart (1967-68) Peak position
Australia (Go-Set) 9
Canada RPM Top Singles 18
New Zealand (Listener) 5
US Billboard Hot 100 13
US Cash Box Top 100 12
The "handful" following, or at least posting on, this thread seems at times to be missing a few fingers.

Re: Name that tune
Maybe this clue will help (apologies if I've overstepped).
"There are two kinds of men in this world. Those with a crush on Linda Ronstadt and those who never heard of her." - Willie Nelson
I would have to say that I fall into the first category.

Re: Name that tune
Peter, I think this one is going to go the way of many before it (including quite a few that I posted).
Maybe it's time for another one? (But maybe not until you post a link to a video of the gorgeous Linda performing the song in question?)

Re: Name that tune
The only song I can think of by Linda Ronstadt (and even here I'm not 100%) is Blue Bayou? Might as well chuck a guess out there.

Re: Name that tune
First the good news. We are in Cancun, Mexico, where it is 81 F. At home it is 19 F, and the power has been out since yesterday afternoon.
This song was Linda Ronstadt's first hit, when she sang with the Stone Ponies. Not sure I have any hints after this.
ps: Do not know why I did not get notifications of Paul's and Plummy's posts, or I would have posted this yesterday.

Heh - finally gave up, and though I like several Linda Ronstadt songs, I can honestly say I've never heard this song before. And I'm supposedly on the right side of the Atlantic to have been exposed...

Re: Name that tune
Okay Ron,there goes my last hope. The song, for those of you who have not googled, is Different Drum.
In the interest of passing on the song choice, how about what I think is an easy one:
"Women seem wicked when you're unwanted".
