I watched a YouTube video and have no recollection of ever hearing this song, though I regularly watched The Monkees when they were on TV, so I probably did at some point.

"When you wake up in the morning and the light is hurt your head"
This sounded really familiar until I realized I was thinking of Bob Seger's "Turn the Page" - "With the echoes from the amplifiers ringin' in your head"... Now I can't read it without the rhythm and cadence of the Seger song!

Peter, I'm stuck on Bill Withers and Lovely Day although I know it's not that. Possibly, several songs begin with When you wake up in the morning?

As for a misspent youth ... I wish.

When the Swinging Sixties swung into our village, they stopped, took one look ... and then kept going.

Why would I want this back?

Anyway, I immediately said to myself, "self, that sounds like John Denver". I can think of more lyrics, but not the title. I just asked Ann and "sang" some of the song, and she immediately said "Annie's Song ".

Ron, we hate to ruin others' fun unintentionally!

Actually, we would love to see your cool clues; either post them here or PM us. :D

I also have some more good (quiet Plummy) songs in mind, so I may try to get the next one back, unless I forget the other songs by then.

So, next:

Mostly written for humorous effect, I may have exaggerated the coolness a bit, but I was formulating a plan if it became another hard-to-guess title -

First, I was going to bracket the chosen lyrics with the lyrics on either side.

Next, I was going to make note that it was one of those rarer songs that doesn't contain the title anywhere in the lyrics (which makes guessing titles difficult for me, personally).

Then, I was going to reveal the decade and the fact that the artist had died crashing his experimental plane.

Underwhelmed? :D

Also, I would have been all over Take It Easy, but Plummy was on the ball.

Funny how difficult that was without the opening and closing words and how easy it was with them! I'm a huge Beatles fan and I thought I knew pretty much all their hits, but you had me totally stumped until you expanded the quote.

Should I just go ahead and post the next one? I haven't received confirmation that that my answer is correct, but I can't imagine there's another song with the exact same words.

Sounds good to me.

And, Google says you are correct. Reading the first two lines now, I realize I recognize them, but not really the third line!

I'll be curious to hear if you saw "Yesterday" yet (the film) as it's the reason I chose that lyric. Your review under films please
