Re: Name that tune
Jan, it's taken me a while to pin this one down, even though I was listening to it recently ( The Police - Greatest Hits ).
Had to double check the back of the CD to make sure of the correct title and spelling ( hope that's allowed? ).
It's that well known Geordie ( 2nd favourite regional accent ) and friends, singing De do do do, de da da da.

Well done Jill, played some old albums the other day and the song title stuck as a good tune option.
Your turn!

Thank you Jan.
As far as I can tell, I do not think that this song has come up before.
I was dreaming when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray

Re: Name that tune
Jan, I can’t imagine you as a ‘ party pooper ‘.
Here are my excuses:
I did put Prince into the NTT search box but not 1999 …
October 27th was a long time ago … Wasn’t it …?
I’m 68 you know.
I have checked out this next one - as a little clue, the one word name of this group came up recently ( as a common noun ) on the Name That Film thread.
I'm pleading as you're leaving I'm begging you to stay
I'm not the man I used to be, I've changed
Yes, that's me Sheena - Bognor beach, 1953 - it's one of the very few photos of me that I like.

Re: Name that tune
Sheena, I wasn’t sure as to whether this was going to be a good choice or not but you have given me some hope.
More clues:
To be a little more specific, the name of the group is contained somewhere between Felton’s Full Metal Jacket quote and Plummy’s latest.
They were an American rock band formed in 1993 and they won several awards including a Grammy in 2001 for With Arms Wide Open.

Re: Name that tune
Jill, you caught me out here, for some reason I can only think of tunes by Dutch bands that most people probably never heard of
However I've found one that made its way onto some UK greatest hits albums, so good luck to all:
Where you can hear a country song from far
and someone plays the honky-tonk guitar

Re: Name that tune
Thanks Jan - I still have nightmares about a big blonde milkmaid with a gap in her teeth - it was one of the first music videos ever shown in South Africa(we only got TV in 1976!!) - another horror show was John Paul Young singing Yesterday's Hero in bell-bottomed sailor suit under the Sydney Harbour bridge .

Re: Name that tune
Paul, you shouldn't complain, it could be a lot worse. Do I have to mention chart toppers like Father Abraham's "Smurf Song" or Dennie Christian's "Hoeba Hoeba Hop" (actually Dennie Christian is German, but he had quite a few Dutch language hits as well, so we can't escape all the blame for that ).
Unfortunately all the best Dutch music from that era is hardly known outside the Netherlands
Anyway, Mississippi is a far superior song to John Paul Young's (I didn't know that song at all, but Sheena found it on YouTube and it's pretty dreadful)!
As for your clue, it sounds familiar but that's where it ends for the moment ...

Re: Name that tune
Sorry, I could not follow all the comments about Dutch (I think??) music.
Anyway, one of my first thoughts was The Doors, but could not place the song. Our friend also immediately replied "the Doors" when I told him the lyrics, but did not know the song.
At first I thought this could "take a week, maybe longer", but listening to Doors songs now I will not wait for When The Music's Over!
