His name is Gordon Lightfoot. Peter and I always joke about his name.
Well, we think it is funny.

Re: Name that tune
I knew who you meant. I thought maybe autocorrect had struck again. Then again, why would autocorrect change Lightfoot to Leftfoot?

Re: Name that tune
Thank you Barbara - not often that I recognise a lyric straight away, I usually have to do some ‘ finking ‘.
It’s Wimbledon, so that now means the inevitable grunting and screeching from some of the female competitors.
With that in mind, I have chosen this song, not for the lyrics but for the song title.
This is the beginning of the chorus/refrain.
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms

Re: Name that tune
Here's a little help.
This is the beginning of the first verse - two words of the three word song title are contained in there somewhere. Think about why I chose this song title.
Words like violence
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
The song was released on an album in 1990 and was written and performed by an English electronic band from Basildon, Essex.
The song won Best British Single at the 1991 British Awards.
I guarantee that you will all have heard of this group. At the moment, it's 40 love to Jill, please don't let her make it, Game, Set and Match. She'll be unbearable.
Love from,
Mb - a tennis widower.

Re: Name that tune
I love a puzzle, but this one has me stumped. I presume one of the words in the title is break, but I can't figure out the other one and anyway, I can't think of any songs with the word break in the title.
I think the 1990s is possible the worst decade for me in terms of song recognition. Past the point where I listened to pop music to any great extent and before the stage that my kids were really into music.
I'll probably kick myself when I hear the title.

Re: Name that tune
After I posted the above, it occurred to me that the song could be Silence Is Golden.
Then I realised that (a) the song was much earlier than 1991, (b) those words don't appear nowhere in the song and (c) the word is does not appear anywhere in the lines you quoted.
Also, I think it was the Tremeloes who performed Silence Is Golden (although I could be wrong) and the chances are they are from nowhere near Basildon and can hardly be described as electronic.

Re: Name that tune
I know the song (by the lyrics) - recognised it straight away and I know the band. Just can't remember the title without looking it up so I'm a bit stumped too.

The Tremeloes? Silence is Golden? Paul! “ You can’t be serious?”Paul Victory wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2017 5:45 pm Also, I think it was the Tremeloes who performed Silence Is Golden (although I could be wrong) and the chances are they are from nowhere near Basildon and can hardly be described as electronic.
Paul, ignore Jill, she’s been disqualified for wearing pink knickers and therefore, contravening the strict Wimbledon Dress Code.
For the record, we both loved your explanations and actually you are getting warm with the Silence is Golden idea as the word silence is part of the song title. Mmmm ...
Plummy, see if this jogs your memory; the group is of course Depeche Mode and the three word song title is, ‘ xxxxx The Silence ‘.
The score between Paul and Plummy is … Deuce.

Re: Name that tune
The two words I can think of are either "Break" or "Enjoy" - is it either of those?

Re: Name that tune
Definitely one of them - let's look at the scoreboard.
Advantage Plummy.
A vital point for Plummy. Can he hold his serve ...?
Coaching from the sidelines is not allowed but then, I'm a law unto myself. As Jill dislikes unnecessary sound effects during a game, which song title would she prefer? Break The Silence or Enjoy The Silence?

Re: Name that tune
Cutting to the chase as they say in the movies I have two formal guesses..
First: Break the Silence?
if that is wrong, my second guess is:
Enjoy the Silence
I'm away from lunch time today until Thursday lunch so if either of they are correct it may be a while before I can post a new one

Can he hold his second serve? Oh! It's an Ace!
Game, Set and Match to Plummy.
A special mention to Plummy's gallant opponent, Paul, who carried on playing even though he was injured.
Normal service on this thread has now been resumed.
Your turn Plummy.

Wasn't on line yesterday, but knew the Depeche Mode song from Jill (and I suspect Dave Wave did too)
I think this is Road to Hell?

As Dave is away, and I know it was Road to Hell (double checked) .. I'll start the next one ...

that should get a few of you going ...

Road to Hell (Part II) would be the full correct title Wolfie - but you were plenty near enough
